| I am trying to get into a new job, and I have to fill out form SF-86 for national security positions, I haven't even looked at the form yet, just the instructions, but even the instructions seem overwelming, they seem to want everything but my DNA, and for all I know they want that.... I've forgotton half the stuff they want.... So has anyone ever filled one of these out before?, and is there anything else I should know?.... |

Just follow the instructions on the back & make sure your information is accurate and complete. It's not as bad as it looks. Good luck on getting the job. ETA: Be sure to make photocopies after you're done. Having that as a reference can come in handy in the future. |

Yup...its a PITA. I've filled out many. Make sure you keep a copy for future reference. Strange...now they are automated online. Are you using the ancient forms? Take your time. Make sure the thing is accurate and DON'T LIE NO MATTER WHAT! Much worse to lie than to admit a mistake earlier in your life. Good Luck! |
I've heard that it will from two gun stores. However, I've never encountered it, so I believe it's not accurate. |

I've been filling out SF-86's continously for the last 25 years. I've never had a 4473 delayed. Honestly, you hear the dumbest stuff in gun stores sometimes. When you finish the electronic form, run the validation tool, correct the mistakes that are inevitably there (don't be leaving those middle name fields blank), then go print:send report to printer (gaff off the instructions and privacy act notice), and file away the paper copy. Make the next one much easier in the future. |
