Caleb Adams has bipolar disorder, a chemical imbalance in the brain that occasionally makes him violent. Incredibly, to get Caleb treatment, his mother had to give up legal custody and hand him over to a state agency.

"It tore my heart out but I knew that I had no choice. I knew that that was the only hope I had of getting my child the help that he needed," said Janice Adams, CalebÂ’s mother.

Bush Proposes $500 Million for AIDS Relief

WASHINGTON — With 2,000 babies infected each day by the AIDS virus, President Bush proposed spending $500 million over the next five years to stop HIV-infected women in Africa and the Caribbean from transmitting the disease.

Critics called the proposal "grossly underfinanced."

I voted for Bush, of course, as he was a better choice than Gore, but then I see stuff like this and wonder what the hell he is thinking.

So, we should fund health care for Africans who, for the most part, became ill through their own behavior, yet some poor American kid doesn't get the level of care he needs?

Never you mind. He is doing what is best for this country. Either you are with him or you are against him.

The top item is about Missouri state law and states rights. The Federal government should not be making these decisions for states. Missouri is not a state I would choose to live in.  

The second item is about buying off corrupt African regimes and the corrupt Americans that are pushing this payoff so they can syphon off a large cut of that 500 million (my best guess).
Hopefully the Bush crew gets something in return that helps them function as a government.

True, the first case is a state issue, and there is probably not a hell of a lot the feds can do directly to help that specific kid. However, health care is more and more becoming a federal issue, so perhaps that $500 million would be better spent boosting Medicare or passed out to the states to fund their own programs.

The real issue is that the state of Missouri would not fund the health care because the mother had "too much" to qualify for aid. It seems to me that the state could have found some way to help without this required split of the family unit.

The federal government sometimes is the only solution. But this argument you make is a typical Clinton/Kennedy/socialism argument for larger federal government and less control and freedoms for the individual.

Health care in America is a disgrace. But, the reason is because the supply and demand favors the suppliers. The solution that would work would be to double the amount of doctors and nurses and hospital beds and clinic visits.

HAH!

The doctors will not allow this. No government plan of rules and more money will help.

The drug companies will not reduce their incomes. No government plan of rules or more money will help.

We live in a dog-eat-dog world.

Goad, all I'm saying is the money is better spent helping Americans. I would rather have the money somehow get to the kid directly, but I know this will never happen, so as a second choice I'm offering that it should go to Medicare or to the states to dole out as they will. I just want it kept in America.

In no way do I support Clinton/Kennedy/socialism as you said. I'm a firm believer in small government.

Bush is a disgrace. Important tariffs, Homeland "security", now this, that's such a load of crap. If he keeps this up, Gore is going to start to not look that bad. At the end of his presidential career, we'll take a measurement, who screwed up the country more, Bush or Clinton.
