I always picture lines like that coming out of the mouths of people with toilets on their porches and front lawns that look like a yard sale, only nothing has a price tag on it.

My stepson had a code enforcement officer just open up his fenced gate that was posted with no trespassing signs every where. The idoit walkd on to his patio and get this....no knock no nothing just open his house door and walk right into his home. Of coarse his pitbulls did not take kindly to this and promptly escorted the CEO right back out the gate.

The stepson went nuts on that guy. He said who tf do you think you are coming into my home. This nut said he had the authority to enter homes w/o permission. no they do not.

Anyways he was screwing with my son saying a truck in the yard was not up to date in it's registration and tag. Even though a valid tag was right on the truck. Did I mention this CEO was friends with a guy that wanted to buy his truck and son refused to sell it to him. This truck deal went to court and right before they went before the judge code enforcement dropped it's case. I think they thought my son would take this as far as he did.

Personally if that had been me and that pos opened my door and walked to my home. Code enforcement would have had a job opening.

I would have held him at gunpoint and had him arrested, then I would have called the local paper/tv station.

I have a dislike of CEO (here) because they seem to bother decent people (who can afford the fines), yet they leave the shitheads alone. There are a number of properties in my neighborhood (up and coming 5-6 years ago, now more on the up) that CE should come down on, they don't. But, anyone doing anything to fix a home up, etc, CE is on you.

Most of the CEO here are either retired LE or people who no longer work in LE for reasons other than retirement.

I suspect that a lot of towns and cities are facing budget shortfalls and instead of cutting costs they just start issuing bullshit fines for everything from minor traffic and vehicle issues to code enforcement.
Keep the fines a few hundred or a couple of thousand and people will pay them instead of hiring a lawyer for much more money.
Hell, one city passed a law that if you tried to fight in court it automatically increased the fines.

You live there. You know you're being raped in property taxes.

I was until I started parking rot boxes in the yard and let the grass grow like a hayfield, let a gutter come loose following a bad winter/ice.

You can spend the savings better than the tax man can.

Apparently you missed the largest stimulus budget in the history of the country that was given out.

Local town has hundreds of thousands of extra money that it doesn't know what to do with.

Heard a couple on bikes say as they rode through my neighborhood,  what a redneck neighborhood. I was walking my dog and they pulled into a driveway of a house that's rented as a Airbnb. My neighborhood has 700k to over a million dollars homes in it right on the bay and is very clean. Plus we have a beach front resort right around the corner.  But this is a florida after all. Noticed the tags they had on their car in the driveway....NEW YORK

I agree with the one poster and I agree with you also. It is a free country and no I'd not like meth heads living next to me. If I did and could not do anything about it I'd sell and move. But honestly what can code enforcement do about drug addicts.

This sounds like a weedy side yard incident.

If you want to park in the yard, move to some place that doesn't care about stuff like that.

Im sure the windfall cash from selling a Beach house in Florida at the moment more than covered the lawn cutting fine. Code enforcement wasnt bad around our beach house but they do have some nutty rules if you get into it. Why anyone would want to plow over all the natural habitat with so much character on these islands and put down sod is beyond me.

No. Code enforcement are just city employees. The police are called to assist them when there's a perceived need for arrest or .gov handing out ass kickings.

I've tangled with code enforcement and they can be douchey or a pain in the ass, but guys with constant code enforcement problems are usually assholes or nuts.

87% of people in a town where houses are close together don't want abandon cars left all over yards, falling down houses with rats and raccoons in them etc blah blah.

Does that justify the citation I received for having my trash cans "closer to the street than the front of the house"? I had the cans in the same area, screened by head high shrubs, for ten or more years. A city councilman had come on the property "to inspect" an out building I was having demolished. He told the guys I hired that "he would be back to inspect the work" I called and left him a voicemail with code enforcement that the councilman wasn't a code enforcement officer and he was being arrested for trespass next time he stepped on the property. I might also have mentioned physical ejecting him. ;p Got cited the next day. Left another voicemail "you guys better knock it off" lol fortunately I wasn't charged with a crime and they did knock it off

I bet code enforcement is there all the time because his neighbors fucking hate this guy and call every Monday morning to complain about him.

edit code enforcement officers with body cams give a hint about the issues with certain citizens in this town, I suspect

Lol. That's what I thought.

This guy was parking his car in one of the 3 electric charging stations at city hall…..not because of lack of parking but because it was closer to his office.

A friend of mine asked me to drop her car there to charge it and when I saw the spots were taken by 2 electric cars and his I went inside city hall and told them they need to move the city car asap.  Code boy came out all puffy with his metal badge on and starting give me the "police voice" about how he could park there if he wanted.

I laughed at him, said no you can't and asked if was LE because I see metal badge but I don't see a pistol and normally those two go together.  He wouldn't answer and just kept saying he was "enforcement".  I just told him move to car or I'm calling PCSO and asking to have it towed. He moved it.

I'm fuzzy here and someone will hopefully correct me if I am wrong, this is in FL of course; CE is not law enforcement*, they cannot arrest you, they cannot carry guns, and in fact they are not allowed to come on your property without permission (obviously the public area is exempt, they can walk up to your front door.)

CE got into some shit here a couple of decades or so ago because they were armed and there were blue lights on their vehicles, totally illegal according to State law. The blue lights had to be removed and if they wanted to carry they had to go get a CCW.

CE here ranges from downright lazy AF to "guy on a power trip."

*The way to get around this is to designate a local PD officer as code enforcement, they he can make an arrest and be armed, but he's do so because he has LE credentials, not because he is CE. Here if they have an issue, they have the PD/SD come with them.

You cannot anyomsly put CE on someone anymore, you have to give your name and it is public information. S.FLA is supposedly particularly bad w/ CE, where I live not so much.

3rd option.

Former upstate ny resident that grew up in the sticks in a podunk town of 1,200-1,500 (complete with quite a few dirt roads) that watched their back yard be over ran by cityiots following 9/11 and the ensuing pants on head property taxes that followed.

For a bunch who thump their chest over how "conservative" live and let live they are around here, they sure do side with liberals on alot of things...
Out of control .gov spending/Muh property valuez.
Rendering a right into a subjective privilege at best.
Then bitch about it when property tax bill comes due...or like when the fudds showed their ass back home, sided with their cityiot overlords, and were fined for violating that new noise ordinance sighting in their deer rifle...

Things I guess that have to be experienced first hand in order to understand what a lack of foresight leads to...

See, if I wanted to, I'd build a big beautiful custom house here.
Not where I'm currently at. Fuck that no way.
Right next to a trailer park or on the outskirts where the poor/trash live.
Right now where I live, a .2 acre plot on a drainage ditch advertised as waterfront property is 90k.
After a 3k+sqft mcmansion goes up? That's 15k+ in annual property taxes. Fuck that. I don't live in ny. I'm not paying that.
Plus. It's busy body burbanite limp wristed pussy eared central here.

I want to be out where the hoopdie driving dilapidated residences are.

Know why?
That 15k dollar tax bill here? Is 1,500 there.
The people there aren't concerned with noise. Neither am I. Know why?

If I want library octave? I just go back inside. Because my shits insulated to keep the cooling bill down.
That's real property value btw...

And since most will have celebratory fireworks/gun fire on holidays and such? Come on over and shoot in the back yard.
I don't care.
Keeps the busy bodies, retirees, and cityiots out, property taxes low, and prevents local .gov from becoming a tyrannical cunt appeasing burden that we pay for in taxes and rights reduced into subjective privileges at best...

Ya'll could learn a thing or two after you learn to read...

Short dick the tax man. You can spend the savings better than he can.

I understand where you're coming from but a word of caution….you might actually get what you're asking for, which is heavy handed GOV intrusion into your life.  I know it may not seem like that now and you most likely believe that this is all manageable but these things can grow a life of their own.

I just sold a property on the beach in FL and the code enforcement has gotten completely out of control.  They are super aggressive and will write a $50/day fine for grass that was cut a week ago. A friend incurred about a $500 fine when the went on vacation and the guy that was supposed to cut their lawn bailed and never said a word.  Their grass was cut a few days before they left and they were gone 2 weeks…..a beautiful lawn that was maybe 3" too long…..

Another friend got a $1500 fine for what enforcement said were short term rentals, under a month, on a small apartment they had on their property, It seems the renters changed vehicles and the code saw that as a new renter.

Now you'd like to think that this could all be worked out pretty easily right? Well you'd be wrong. The mayor is in bed with all of this and the fines are pretty much rubber stamped by the "judge" that reviews them.  So from what I saw if you got a fine you paid it or you lawyered up and spent thousands of dollars for a couple hundred dollar fine.

Once these small communities get a taste for the money that these fines bring in they can spin out of control. So again be careful for what you ask for because you might get it.

Texas doesn’t need any more police!  They have local police, college police, county sheriffs department, constables, railroad police, state department of public safety, Texas Rangers, fish and game officers an I don’t know how many others, not to mention all the .gov police in the state.  I am not against the police but every time they hire a new cop they raise taxes.  No new cops, no new taxes.

Freedom be scary.

My neighbors once asked me why I leave my project truck literally in the side yard with no tarp.
Easy.

Your tax bill was 1,252 last year right?
Yeah.
What's it up to now?
1,863, and yours?
Mine hasn't changed. See that 92 chevy missing the front clip and a trashed greasy blue tarp ziptied to the frame covering that low compression dog shit TBI 350?

But... aren't you worried about code enforcement?
Nope. Not one bit. I have a legal eagle for a best friend who can smack their peepee hard.
As far as the old curmudgeons from lawngisland? They fucked around and found out. That's why they sold and are no longer here...
Code enforcement for thee, not for me backfired on them.

Can't have an unregistered motor home boat, boat trailer, and conversion van with the umpteen other things they had going against them.
Fuckers sent both code enforcement and Johnny law over to my house.
But I have PBA tags on my trucks and donate heavy to local PD and sheriffs. I has friends.

Busy body didn't. That old bastard acted like he was the king of the neighborhood. He fucked around and found out with the wrong one.
Cityiots and lawngislanders and I don't mix...

I won't ever forget what they did to my home town. I won't ever forgive them for it either.
And I'll be damned if they do it again.

Camaros on blocks in the front yard.
Lawn growing like a hayfield.
Long tubes to glasspacks/straight piped all the V8 things.
Vance and Hines with no or minimal baffles all the Harleys.
Sadly, swallow pride and defend the goofy flat brimmed kids fart cannon civics and subwoofers that hit like thunder.
Dole fireworks out to the kids.
Short dick the tax man.

Float in the pool and laugh at the nuerotic busy bodies REEEEing while you save money on property taxes and get tyrants the fuck out.
Unfortunately everyone is moving to Florida. I would say. When the music stops and you've driven the busy bodies out, scoop their foreclosed stucco false facades up bulldoze them and have a backyard shooting range/dirt bike/quad trails/track.

Buy that vacant industrial/commercial park, bulldoze that and build a dirt oval and drag strip.
Ohhhhh they fucking hate stock cars.

C12/C16 burning high compression small block chevys that Rev to 8,500-9,000 at 2am really gets them unhinged.

Whether he has arrest powers or not, he has a cell phone and cop buddies that do, which is why the guy in the OP is getting a booking shot for his threats most likely.

Most Code Enforcement write infractions based on city or county code passed by a commission or board.  Law Enforcement enforces state or federal law passed by a legislative branch.

The distinction is that LE is sworn, armed and has powers of detention and arrest under the color of law.  That's it and far as I know code enforcement has none of those authorities.  They might like to think that they do but they don't.

And no, the guy in the OP broke the law. That's why he got his picture taken not because the CE was buddies with the cops. The fact of the matter is that in most communities public employees have special protections in the lawful assumption of their official duties. e.g. kicking a meter maids ass while they're wrting you a ticket gets you a whole bunch more than simple assault on them outside a bar.

Our County is poor and littered with junky residences and we have meth head issues along with other human issues. I'm working with our Commissioners to use the State laws to enforce a clean up effort. The laws are on the books and through fines we'll be able to hire a code enforcement officer hopefully. When realtors say "I won't list it until that mess up there is cleaned up" it's time to do something about it. The County tax district is on board with it AFTER they capitulated in my case and saw the light about hundreds of other residences using the "trashy residence" reason as a way to lower their taxes which reduces the income for the County. We're all in this boat together and I'm paddling as hard as I can.

Respectfully, sir...stop 'helping'.

Water finds its own level.  'help' enough, and you'll be taxed out of your homeland, overrun by CA and NY transplants.

In my humble opinion, worth what you paid for it, any cooperation with he county tax district that doesn't involve Molotov's is counter-productive.

It's getting harder and harder to find a place in my Texas homeland where I can be left alone, free from the works of do-gooders.

LOL.  You think the cops would arrest him.

Code enforcement can lick lick lick lick my balls. I love my neighborhood, sure it's the hood but code enforcement doesn't even drive thru here. There's a guy down the street that has probably six cars and so much shit that his yard looks like the flea market. Crackheads are constantly hanging out there. He has a fire pit in his front yard.

Land of the free and home if the brave.....as long as you keep it clean and dont park in your own yard.

Video shows work truck(s) in his yard.  Guess it would also be hard on families that had to have others move in for whatever reasons.  Guess they should walk or ride the bus.

What's hilarious about Florida and this is no shit, the gospel truth.

The main road in front of my house, go north bound about a quarter mile.
A mcmansion went up.
Big beautiful bastard, all house, no yard.
Barrel tile roof, OSB stucco plastered "columns" under the foyer that covers a horse shoe shaped driveway.

950k dollar house completed a year ago.

I drove by it every day as it was being built.
Public records claim, 5 bed 4.5 bath.

There's a mix of Nissan maximas/altimas that are sun baked, early-mid 00s escalades and a couple banged up dodge and chevy half tons with stucco/concrete/house paint splattered about jammed in the driveway and what little remains of a yard...

There's 4 or 5 families living in it sometimes, the wind rips the empty Modelo/Tecate beer cans out of the beds of the trucks. On Friday nights you can see a couple painters and roofers vans parked just right to barely be in without being on the shoulder.

Mid construction, it kept failing inspection for HVAC because the house behind it, another mcmansion? Is a halfway house
There was a junkie that needed a fix and yanked the copper line sets for that 2 system house.

Just because you see a big beautiful mcmansion? Doesn't necessarily mean Mayberry here.
I love it. Florida is a whole different world.
There's places, like fort Lauderdale and Miami... you can literally be seeing million dollar+ houses on both sides of the street, make a right on the corner and another right, and you're in a legitimate ghetto.

Go drive/ride motorcycles through Pasco headed to the west coast.
You won't know if you're in Mexico or Oniontown.

I always picture lines like that coming out of the mouths of people with toilets on their porches and front lawns that look like a yard sale, only nothing has a price tag on it.

Oh...the back part of my property is going to look like it when I'm done.

These women didn't even have the decency to come talk to me before they started to act like d-bags. They thought it was bad before...they ain't seen nothin' yet - all within code...that I have printed out.

FWIW - the code people I dealt with were very nice, helpful, and more sympathetic to me when the neighbors continued their d-baggery with them.

Why does he have to move? If someone doesn't like the guys property, close your eyes, don't drive past it, mind your own business

And arfcom would hate him. Then get the democrat government they claim to hate and ask why does the left win and we lose?!

Meanwhile...dudes paying shit in property taxes and spending what he saves on taxes on project vehicles, while sipping beer at the fire pit.
This is what I love about Florida...

Outside of the hoas? Literally custom/semi custom houses 700k-1 million+.
Occupied by arfcoms dreaded riffraff or, beer aids refugees from backhome, jumped on Zoom with a real estate agent/home builder, commissions granite stucco false facade built sight unseen, right in the ghetto

In fact... one of my customers/friends builds said custom/semi custom homes...
He built one in Gifford off of Martin Luther King blvd...
That house has been sold twice

How he managed that? Zip code technically is-Vero Beach.

It's funny you mention building in/near the hood. They just finished a 250k$ and up gated neighborhood that the wall around it butts up to a trailer park, section 8 duplexes and the back of my neighborhood. Now they're building another one just like it, right across the street from the first one. Do people really want to spend $300k on a plywood and stucco house that's surrounded by ghetto? Apparently yes

Of course he got booked because he broke the law and not a as favor to the CE Officer, I was using artistic license.  And there are non-sworn LE that have limited jurisdiction but enforce actual law and some even have arrest powers within those limits.

Generally, sworn LE have jurisdiction that is state-wide and covers the entire state law even though they won't ever end up writing anything outside of a small section of it.

Never heard of a non-sworn LE position having powers of detention and arrest. Sounds like illegal detention or kidnapping to me.
