Does anybody here take any sort of workout supplement say for example creatine. I used 1-AD until they banned it

Creatine works if you are a lifter.  No help at all for endurance sports like running.

I take thermogenics, whatever's not too expensive.

If you're looking for gear advice, try wannabebig.com.  My take on gear - even if you assume it is safe, if it really only beneficial for those huge ass meatheads who have plateaued.  For average or even relatively muscular guys, just work out some more.

I use creatine , but cycle thru using it. 1 month on 1 month off. I do see a diffrence in mass using it.  I use it for weight lifting.

I have a Mea replacement shake after I run to help get the vitamins and carbs and protien back into me. It really helps me recover. I also take a whey protein shake a couple of hours before I got to bed.

I run any where from 20-40 miles a week depending on where I am in my cycle.

What recipe do you use for Whey protein shakes?

Thanks!

I purchased Whey protein for the first time this week and fixed according to directions (mix with water) it was undrinkable to me.   I just tried with 1% milk and it's pretty good!

Accelerade and Gu during, Endurox after, but I am an endurance guy, not a steakhead.

From my personal experience, the creatine is a waste of money and definitely not worth the indegestion that it was giving me.  From looking at some of the studies, it appears that there is no conclusive evidence that creatine is even helpful.  The initial boost I got from it was most likely psychological.

The one supplement that I do recommend is some sort of protein supplement, but don't even rely on this.  The best thing you can do is to get the majority of protein and nutrition from whole foods and a good clean diet.

My personal exprience (might be psychosomatic) and those of many body builders (also might be psychosomatic) does not mirrow yours.

Creatine is clearly beneficial to weight lifters, IMO.

If it gives you indigestion, change the product.  A buddy of mine got the craps with the Wal-Mart creatine and sugar fruit flavored stuff.  He changed products to plain creatine, no additives, and mixes it in a protein shake, water, or whatever and no problems.

I take creatine and protien.

When I dont take creatine for a few days and then I take it again it gives me the shits.

But if I just stay on it at the regular dose I am fine. But I am about out of the 1lb I bought to try and I probably wont be buying anymore anytime soon. I will continue protien though. Helps the soreness and shaking after working out.

Does anyone know a lower-cost replacement/stand-in for EAS Myoplex?

Go do some research on medical studies that have been done on creatine, and you'll see what I'm talking about.  The gains from being on creatine are either minimal or non-existant.  Keep in mind that the supplement companies are marketing machines and they want you to spend money on their products and they won't hesitate to hype their products.

If you are getting any benefit from creatine (mental or physical), then by all means keep on using it.  The studies I've read don't seem to give any indication that their are helath hazards to using creatine, so it's doubtful that you can hurt yourself with it so long as you take the recommended doseages.  If you take too much, you'll just be stressing your kidneys while they try to remove the excess.

I have read that creatine can also be good for endurance sports as well as body building.
I will see if I can dig through a few years of M&F to find that article.

I wouldnt use creatine monohydrate, used it and didnt find the results worth the digestive trouble I had...now the new estrified creatine works good...basically infuses water into the muscle..good for short gains but once you stop taking it you piss it away....
A quality protein (I use MuscleMilk...tastes GREAT!!) and some glutaimne and amino supplements and a multi-vitamin are all you really need.

Actually it's the opposite -- it does not help with endurance at all.  Advocates of creatine will tell you that it only helps with short high energy bursts of effort like weight lifting, or maybe sprinting?

Keep an eye on your blood pressure if taking creatine. I have seen some guys who had a problem with it if they took creatine constantly.hinking.gif

I'm brand new to weight lifting, I started doing it seriously about a month ago. I like it so far but I'm wondering are there any side effects to using these Protein powders?

Apparently not:

I'll buy some and try it out, see if I like it.

I recently had gastric bypass surgery and the only protein the surgeon and nutritionalist wanted us to use was Designer Whey protein. They stated that it was the best for our digestive systems especially with the "rerouting". I would think that that would also apply for people with normal digestive systems.
The deisgner type can be found with high protein content and low calories, so if you are using them post work-out you will need to read the label to make sure your are getting the caloric intake you desire.

That's what I take too.  It tastes so good I think I could drink three or four shakes a day no problem.  I use one scoop whey, three ice cubes, and 8 oz of water.  I mix use one of those personal blenders to mix it.

I have that in chocolate and thought it was disgusting! As always YMMV!

I like the GNC brand whey.

This place is highly recommended. If/when GNC doesn't have their stuff on sale I'm gonna try it...

I like the ON whey protein but it does have a nasty side effect for me. It makes me have alot of seriously bad gas. All protein shakes do this to me. I have to be careful when I drink it. The effect only lasts for about 18 hours or so and then Im back to a less stinky me!

I use:

All THey Whey vanilla
Isopure Vanilla

Specifically because I can mix them with a spoon and only have to lift off a few sppons of excess and they are thin.  Myoplex requires a blender as do all the other whey protein supplements I have used.

I just order whatever creatine is cheapest.

No beating Caffeine and Ephedrine for preworkout.  It is highly addictive however.  I dont lift without it.
