Thinking of getting my first NFA toy one of these days fairly soon in the form of a suppressor.  I'm not sure what to put the aforementioned can on though.  In terms of round count, I shoot 22LR from my AR by way of a Ceiner kit 4 to 1 over the next highest round count.  I am thinking of getting a 5.56 can for the AR, that way I can have the benefits of suppressed 22LR, and if I need to shoot big boy rounds, I can have a suppressed 5.56 on the same gun.

Am I on the right path here, or am I missing something major I should consider?

It's an option.  I think the benefit of .22LR cans is you can take them apart and clean them better.

You could always get a full size barrel for a compact pistol, thread it, and look like a cool assassin when you go to the range.

I think I have read that you should not use a 5.56 can to shoot large amounts of .22 and 5.56  though. Something about lead buildup and possible adverse affects once you shoot 5.56 through it.
I might be remembering wrong. Hopefully someone in the know can clear it up.

That's why I got mine.

I'd make a dedicated .22 upper and run a .22 can on it.  AAC makes a can that can be taken apart for cleaning that caught my eye.

Start a thread in the suppressor forum, they know a lot more about this.
