Gonna be doing my first track day at the Auto Club Speedway in Fontana.
Car is a 1997 240sx with a Stock blacktop SR20DET.

Only Suspension upgrades are KW V3 coilovers and adjustable rear upper control arms.

Just wondering if the more seasoned drivers here had any good advice for a first timer.

I'm not trying to go out there and be Aryton Senna the first day, just trying to improve my driving abilities.

Thanks

Best thing you can do is have good tires and go with an attitude of wanting to learn. Talk to the other drivers, observe what they are doing and figure out why they do it. The first one can either be frustrating or a lot of fun. Make it be a lot of fun.

Be aware of the brakes . most new guys over drive into the corners and burn the brakes up. Followed by driving the tires off . a street alignment is not a track alignment . Take your time and learn the track . I am sure if you do a google search you can find a video or 2 of the preferred lines in the corners . Watch your temps and oil pressure . You can starve an engine for oil in hard track turns . Safety . make sure you have a fire extinguisher and it is secure . Not a plastic ty strap holding it in place .  This is not a race .

Appreciate it guys, thanks.
I've found some helpful videos as to the layout/proper lines for the track.

Question about tires, would you suggest really sticky R compounds or a summer performance tire?

I don't know the validity to it but I've heard for beginners using super sticky R compounds can mask bad driving habbits.

Do any oval guys have advice as to driving on banking? The course has two 14 degree banked turns.
