Greetings,

I was issued a citation today for "driving around railroad arm" with a $144 fine.  I have a clean record and had a neutral attitude at the time of being pulled over.

My options are to pay the fine within the next 30 days or appear in court to contest it.  My question is: can I show up to my court date and ask for leniency?  I knew what I did wasn't right, but I didn't think it would result in this.

What do you think?

Thanks for your time

I just "yahoo'd" it and it seems I can appear and contest it for a reduced fine.
I would still appreciate your input.
Thanks

Never hurts to ask.

You could ask for probation (suspend ticket for some period unless you get another one).

Or pay a fine and try to avoid points, tickets suck but the insurance company can really jack you up.

Most jurisdictions, what you do is show up at the appearance date and negotiate with the city attorney / district attorney for a lower offense.
