After 4 very very long years and 2 governments 3 Prime Ministers..it looks like we might have a contract. I won't get into the whole clusterf**k of a story but the previous LIEberal gov't did it's best to break our union. They outright refused to negotiate with us since June 1st 2002. All we got was smoke and mirrors. The new Conservative gov't had an offer on the table in less then 2 months. They are hardline pro 'do the crime..do the time". They have already made some drastic changes to sentences handed out for gun crimes,etc. One of the big issues our union had which is included in our contract is that all maximum escorts and medium emergency escorts will be armed. I've been a CO for over 9 years and in that time we've had 1 armed escort leave our prison. The fact we had to negotiate what should be SOP gives a great example of how FUBAR my agency is at the present time. The good news is..my retro check should be around 10K before taxes...and I told the boss quite a while ago..when I get the check..I'm buying a shotgun.  right after I buy a new sofa & chair

There is actually a bunch of things our bargaining committe got added. The government has a Nation Joint Occupational Safety and Health committee which we are part of. However they agreed to form a sub-committee made up of them and CO's to address issues specific to our job.
I'd love to own one of those. I had a chance to use Mojo's MP5 in Texas with one on it...  However..the patriotic part of me wants one of these...kind of the best of both worlds..  Plus the distributor is a friend of mine.. |
