Another Yahoo ... About a British problem but It ALSO says that...... It is practiced by Muslims and Christians alike, deeply rooted in the Nile Valley region and parts of sub-Saharan African, and is also done in Yemen and Oman. Through migration, the practice has spread to Western countries like Britain. I thought this was a Muslim tradition... any info as to what sect of Christians do that .... Female circumcision |

Correct myself, the protestant missionaries have done the most work banning it. In the past the catholics and orthodox felt they had to allow it in Egypt and other African areas. I do not know what their current stance is - but I cant imagine they allow it... |
It is NOT the same thing. AT ALL. The same thing would be cutting the head of your dick off so you won't have sexual pleasure. They cut off the fucking CLIT. Are you shitting me? I understand SOME just clip some of the labia. THAT done at a young age I guess would be comparable to snipping off the foreskin. But I am against circumcision all around. Its an archaic practice. |
Mainly it's not the same because we're a first world country and our doctors/rabbis do it without mutilating the 'patient'. In those third world crapholes they aren't so careful. Either way it is a religious/superstitious/cultural thing and not a necessity of any sort. |
FGM is a 'local tradition' in some areas, dating back long before Christaintity OR Islam was present where it is practiced... It has nothing to do with modern-day religeon, but rather is related to the tribal customs of the area... Similarly, MALE circumcision (which has proven - medically - to be a GOOD thing, unlike FGM) occurs indigenously in several African tribes that have NO relation to Judaism (the source of the Western practice).... |
Male circumcision involves only the foreskin. Female circumcision ranges from the removal of the clitoris to the removal of pretty much the entire genitalia (leaving a hole that is then sewn shut all the way to leave just a small space for the urine to come out). |
