I am looking for to buy a springfield m1a, loaded package in order to give me a .308 caliber semi-auto. The most importatn features I am looking for are, availability of parts, accuracy (1 moa at 100 yards with match ammo, standard sights), availability of optics to supplement the sights, reliability, maintainability (how difficult is it to clean). Is the m1a the gun for me? Keep in mind, I have already made my peace with the price tag. I am also interested in how the gun shoots, weight, recoil, etc... Thanks.

Mine sucks, it won't group at all. Keeps putting every damn bullet in the same hole. Only real complaint is mags cost. Resist the urge to super match or M21 tactical. Mid range M1As do the job just fine. Get one with a NM trigger and NM hooded sight with a decent barrel. Damn Tack driver.

If there was only one hole, where did all the other bullets go? Man that gun sucks :). Thanks for the feedback SteyrAUG.

Just to add, Springfield Gen3 illuminated reticle is the only way to go. I have a factory mount on mine, but have heard people complain about them lately. Got mine some time ago. But with a hooded sight these guns are tight with open sights, much like the FAL. If you are interested you can email me for a quote on a pecific model. covertop@hotmail.com I will do my best to get you a good price on the rifle or rifle w/optics and mount.

Disagree with Steyr Never seen a SA go past 300 rounds and not lose a retcle.

Ahhhhh the Springfield Armory M1A stainless loaded. Went to the gunstore this morning. Saw all the beautiful toys. And there she was... my next true love. Hey, it's fate I tell myself. The cosmic forces of nature are taking their toll. There was a melding of souls, with thoughts of how the universe could be so cruel as to not let me have the monetary means to immediately take her home. Yea, I know she'll desire constant feeding pampering and attention, but hey, I can live with that. As long as she doesn't require it. So much for a simple "BTT". More input please, as I'm falling in love again and would like to know more as well. [:D]

Their NEW scopes also suck? I got 2,000 rounds through mine easy. When did SA mounts and optics become crap?

Loaded M1A with 3rd Gen. mount & ATN 6-18 x 65 scope. Damn I wish I had a digital camera!! You will never regret buying an M1A!!! And, raf, I'll never regret buying my Garand either!! But should a situation arise, I'll grab my M1A first!! M1A Super Match. (Get a Krieger Barrel and an McMillan Stock). The Super Matches weigh more..but they are worth it. Or..you can go a cheaper route: get a DCM Garand, then farm it out to be rebuilt with a heavy Match grade barrel. AccuracySpeaks will build a nice Garand for you.

If you go for optics, do yourself a favor, and get the A.R.M.S #18 mount. The Springfield 3rd Gen mount requires you to beat the piss out of it to mate it to the reciever, otherwise it will not hold position under recoil, much less return to zero if dis-mounted. And I ain't joking about beating the mount up, either, although to be fair, Springfield does use the gentler term "hit." DAMN good rifle, but the mount........? There's just something about hitting a $1200-$2000 rifle with a hammer that gives me the willies.

Thanks for the feedback, it looks like I will make the right choice when I buy the gun. SteyrAUG, thanks for the offer, I may take you up on it when I have the money together.

There is a reason SA is giving away scopes. Chek any firearms site for SA scope feedback. I quit selling them because they ALL came back and the customers bitched a lot.SA did send them new scopes.I assume this is why SWFA has all those rebuilt SA scopes on "SPECIAL" cpermd

Darin Try and get SA to send it with all USGI parts and a GI barrel. If they can do it you will have a winner. cpermd
