WASHINGTON — The Obama administration wants automakers to put limits on vehicle technologies that permit texting and cellphone calling when a car is moving, as part of a broader effort to stop driving behaviors that could be distracting and cause crashes.

You know what's going to happen if this goes through.  People will stop in the middle of traffic to text.  Sure you might get hit by a trash truck and die, but cell phones are the most important things in life.

How are you going to limit the driver and not the passengers? The free market will always stay one step ahead of the govt.

That's it, just keep pushing.

Once you realize that the government is intentionally trying to pick a fight it all becomes clear.

They won't, I imagine.  They probably want the car companies to build phones into cars that only work if the car is stationary.  So everyone will just use their handheld phone instead.

We'll probably pay for it once with a subsidy, and then pay for it again when we buy the car.

Yeah and never mind that whatever device that is going to do this is going to be torn the hell out by the owner in short order.

I'm sorry I didn't realize that it was the federal .gov's job to do this. Hmmm...learn something new every day.

I thought the purpose of the whole Bluetooth built-in phone thing was so that you could easily do hands-free calling.

This will just push people back to their old, less safe handheld phones while in the car.  And I guess the car won't want passengers making calls either?

Yes. Let's worry about this instead of a $1.3 trillion deficit.
