Way too many variables to make that kind of prediction. A lot depends on the person being shot and what their response is to it. Some would break your neck or cut your head off before their blood pressure dropped enough to incapacitate them. Even then a single shot to the chest with anything is not guaranteed to kill.
The old gunfighting rule was that one's opponent was viable for 10 seconds after being shot. Ten seconds is a long time when your life is on the line. |

A number of studies show that one shot of almost any caliber incapacitates an attacker about half the time, perhaps due to the psychological effect of "shit, I've been shot". Some also call this a psychological stop.
For the rest, it seems like two shots is what it takes to incapacitate almost regardless of caliber...and one to the head works almost all the time, again, regardless of caliber. The biggest difference isn't between handgun calibers, it's when you step it up to a rifle or a shotgun. One caliber study The lesson seems to be whatever you are carrying, watch your shot placement...and don't expect one round to do the job. |

What I can add to this is that in one particular case that I am very aware of a 180gr .40 S&W JHP round DID NOT do the job! |

Hooked carpet knife or Karambit inserted just to the side of the spine in the mid back right below the last ribs.
Insert and pull the blade until you hit the far side of the spine.. Disecting the desending aorta.. Nothing can be done and BP drops almost instantly.. |
