Facebook has been somewhat of a polarizing subject around here. I've caught some flack around here for calling it a "relationship killer." I don't really retract that statement, especially since as of today I can say that I personally know 8 couples, most married, who have split up as a direct result of one of them cheating with someone they met on Facebook. In all of these cases except one, it was the woman who cheated.

I agree that you can't blame Facebook for ruining a relationship any more than one could blame a pencil for misspelling a word. That being said, I deleted my account about a year ago because I saw it as a tool for narcissism. People, mostly women, were posting every aspect of their personal lives with the sole purpose of getting people(most they haven't even met in real life) to click a like button or comment.

It seems as if the sole purpose was attention. Nothing more, nothing less. Even if it came from people they've never met. The whole thing just seemed stupid to me and I can honestly say I have not missed it or regretted it one day since then.

 What are your thoughts?

I pop on to see what ppl are up to,  I also get a kick out of some of the shit people share that they have no business putting out there.  It's a form of entertainment for me.

FB doesn't create cheaters. Guns don't kill people. See?

I have reconnected with people from my past and keep in touch with family and even a few arfcommers on FB.

People who lack self control will have the same issues, FB is not the problem.

It's an important tool for pro-2A activism. We've organized protests and have even run paid ads against gun grabbers.

If I were still on I'd join it. It really got to where the stupidity and attention whoring outweighed the productive useful information.

those people would have cheated regardless of FB..they just would have found someone off of FB to cheat with.

As with everything, FB is ok in moderation.

Also, I am pretty sure I've lost a couple of friends due to my posting my politcal beliefs and gun stuff on there.

I have had an account for 4 or 5 years and it has been a positive experience, but my interaction is very limited.

I don't meet people on facebook.  I either already knew you or I don't interact with you.  Shit, even if I already knew you I probably won't bother to interact with you...

I'm very active on FB. I've got real-life friends and some family that have "unfriended" me because I am somewhat politically active on there, post pro-gun stuff, etc.- as well as have made a lot of friends because of it.

At this point though I mostly just use it for knowing when there are car meets and checking out pictures of people's cars, and to post pictures and videos of my son.

I don't have hundreds of friends like some people

Surround yourself with good and positive people, and don't be a shitbag.  That's the secret to no FB drama.

Anyone that posts something ignorant or negative, I delete.  Deleted my sister two months ago (then added back after she got her shit together).  Don't need negativity in my life.

Yep.  I also don't accept requests from people I don't know.

That doesn't mean I'm best friends with everyone on my list but I either know them personally in real life or *know* them through other online interaction (this and other forums).

I have to laugh though at the logic of starting a thread on one social media site in order to complain about attention whores on another social media site.

This right here.    I don't use it to "meet people"     Every person I have on there is someone I know and interacted with in person at some point in my life.

I would say 1/4 , and Im low balling here , of the domestic disputes I respond to now originate from Facebook . That doesnt just mean spouses. I mean sisters, brothers , moms, and dads .

It's odd that I never seem to see all this attention whoring folks here complain about on FB. Maybe, just maybe it has to do with the fact I use FB to keep in touch with family and friends spread out all over the country, none of whom are attention whores.
