I am all for carpet bombing with MOAB's. Do all the Sunni/Baath towns down to the dirt. Announce that it is in retaliation for the beheading. If the Shiites still want some, let them have it too. The only friends we seem to have in Iraq is the Kurds, and I'm sure they wouldn't object too loudly. We need to go animal on their ass for a change. |

they have signed off for a while. They are getting back in their bradley and moving. Booby trapped buildings have been encountered, fighters bombers may be called in so they are going to get under armor.

They pretty much leveled the place for what I could see. It sounds like the shiite keep coming into that area and are killed. Then more come in....and die. This has happened like 4 or 5 times.

FNC was showing live video via Scott Harrigan and his cameraman of the 1st AD and unidentified SF units attacking a compound beleved to be the headquarters of the Al Sadr milita in Karbala. Bradlies have knocked holes in the walls and they witnessed Apache's, Kiowa's and a AC-130 attacking targets. Two buildings exploded, and there were reports that the SF guys going in were finding booby trapped buildings. |

No there is no more video. They are waiting for Harrigan to report back and they will go to him when he makes contact again. But when he signed off he said they had to get back in their Bradley. For safety since there were perhaps bombers coming but also they might be moving position. Apparently the solution for a booby trapped building is, rather than call in the EOD guys, is to drop a JDAM on it. |

Well, IIRC, one accepted method of EOD is to detonate from a safe distance... I think an air strike accomplishes that... Al Sadr got too big for his boots, and I'd guess the establishment (Sistani, et al) washed their hands of him & told us we could have the punk...
