I've done some google and duckduckgo searches and came up with nothing. I suspect this guy is full of it.  Just so happens that the supposed ban date is Jan 20.

Flir must be tight with the current VA government.

Both seem to think lowly citizens are nothing more than an object to fleece money from.  The difference being one entity steals the money from you via taxes and the other entity fleeces you of that same money via the first that steals it from you.

I guess I wont be buying any of the Flir equipment that I have been looking hard at,  both the weapon sight and the industrial test equipment that I was considering.  Fuck em.

I'm not saying this is what could have happened, but one could imagine, you stop selling to John Q, we have been looking for a big order, using John Q's tax dollars.  Or stop selling to John Q, or you will meet the fate of bump stocks.

They might be hedging against citizens and .gov getting into hot exchanges due to VA and all. They would rather be on the good side of the state, so they can supply the equipment that will be used to murder the dissidents.

I’m guessing they’re ending the FLIR brand name in sales.

Future civilian sales will either go through ATN or another company that they wholesale their technology to.

To be honest I kind of get it.  Civilian sales is a lot of legwork for arguably little return vs military/govt sales.

So let someone else handle civilian sales.  Invest in R&D. Move on.

It’s especially attractive if they’re gearing up to sell themselves. Either private / venture capitalists or to someone like Boeing / Lockheed / etc.  Cuts the corporate headcount down and lowers perceived legal liability.

This is the obvious answer. But I guess FLIR is anti gun now lol. Hold on and I’ll go chunk my breach into the dumpster.

Kind of like my company doing bathroom remodels. We’re not really geared twords it and would loose money.

Flir is a gubmmit company.

Not really at all a problem for them. Companies like FLIR, and L3 and the like make ALOT more off gov’t sales and spares than civilian sales.

Heck, FLIR owns armasight and they are an OEM provider of IR sensors for other companies that sell civilian IR.

It’s really not worth competing with yourself.

I could use a ton of oil industry examples.  But at the end of the day if you’re the OEM supplier / R&D leader / etc.  It rarely makes sense to compete with who you supply.

Perfectly happy blowing up or blinding or just plain spying on people with their camera turret-balls, though.  Even regimes with awful human rights records.

According to FLIR we just had a meeting with... For some odd reason the {"other thread was locked"} so others here might want to know as we head into Shot Show.

Going forward they will only have SCOUT, SCION, PVS, LSX/R and BREACH products available for purchase for consumers. They will not be LE or Mil restricted as some other rumors have surfaced. All their warranty support stays the same. Hope this helps with the info traffic.

what I got from the other thread which isn't tech (?) wasn't that the scout, breach, etc would be .mil restricted.

Rather, I understood it as the scout, scion, breach, etc would still be available to civilians, while FLIR continues to provide their other TWS stuff exclusively to .mil, .gov customers. ie. other than those specific products, FLIR will restrict everything else to LE/MIL.

Why grovel and spend time to service you, when they can just sell to the guy who can take all your assets if you don't pay the kings toll to live?  The king doesn't mind paying extra, just put it on the national debt card, it will be a rounding error.

Follows Colt’s business model:

- we don’t need civilian sales to stay in the green so:  FUCK CIVILIANS.

In contrast, companies like Barrett and Hornady have said:  FUCK TYRANY! And will back we, the people, 100%.

No, they just bit a small hand they want to distance themselves from. The huge hand is mounting their cool shit on publicly funded .mil and .gov platforms.

The big hand does not like that little hand having the same capabilities as they do.

While FLIR's most expensive thermal scopes over $15,000 (T75) are still the state of the art, FLIR's commercial product line has been degrading since they bought out Armasight and added their junk to their products and put the FLIR brand on them. Trijicon bought out IR Defense and sells their thermal scopes under the Trijicon brand. Another decent brand is L3.
