Hello everybody,
I've been a member here for about 2 years. This is my first posting, I usually just soak up information. My daughter a high school senior, is in a contest to win a trip to Antarctica for 13 days to study Marine Biology with Julie Scardina of Sea World. Currently she is in 5th place out of 130. One person out of the top 5 will be selected. Please vote for her at the following link, You do have to register on their website. They will send you a confirmation email with a link to vote. http://adventurewithjulie.com/blogs/view/42 |

HEY EVERYONE, I'VE BEEN A MEMBER HERE FOR TEN YEARS AND I NEED A SITE MEMBERSHIP. PLEASE BUY ME ONE, I DON'T POST MUCH EITHER!
You got it
Always wanted to go diving in Antarctica, heard awesome things about it |
First post nails it again. Don't participate at all for two years then just use the membership when you want something. I can understand not being an occassional poster like myself but no post in two years?

I understand that line of thought, there are other sites that I am more active on and may feel the same way towards someone who hasn't "paid his dues". Thank you to anybody that wants to help out. And anybody who doesn't think it is appropriate, I get it.

I will only vote if she will take my ex-wife with her. Good show laddy! |
I voted for her.
Hey, at least you aren't sending her to Africa. |
Hmmm...
Still a better idea than the guy whose daughter is going to South Africa. –– John |
Are they flying her to Antarctica or going via boat? If the latter, I hope your daughter has tons of motion sickness meds. A co-worker of mine took a boat to Antarctica (McMurdo research station) and he said everybody, even those of the stoutest of stomach, was having trouble with the large waves down there. He may have been on a smaller boat but it's something you may want to prepare your daughter against.
Now I feel guilty and obligated to not only vote for your daughter, but to keep this thread alive.... dang.
Voted, First post or not. That will be a trip of a lifetime for her..Good Luck!

That place is almost entirely devoid of all human life, cold, covered in glaciers, and full of penguins.
I don't know that I would ever come back. I have always wanted to hunt a penguin. Just didn't have the time when I passed through New York to reach Niagara Falls a couple years ago. _MaH |

The whole time I was in the Navy, I always wanted to get stationed down there.
I think that would be the assignment of a lifetime. Good luck to her, I hope she makes it. |
It is a flight to Argentina first. Then 13 days on an icebreaker. Copy, will bring plenty of motion sickness pills.

There are many, many teenage daughters that need to be sent to Antarctica. |

BTW, I think that the Sea Shepheards are looking for more crewmembers. May be she should look there |

Good luck to her.
We have some aircraft over there under contract. The guys are heading back in Sept., I think. Got some cool pics of penguins around the aircraft at work and will see if they are still there and post later this week. |

Sadly, you picked the wrong service for that. www.gocoastguard.com On the plus side, you didn't miss anything. There's nothing down there but ice, nerds, fish and Japanese whaling ships. |

I don't recall how the subject of visiting Antarctica came up but my buddy's bubble-headed girlfriend remarked, "I don't think I'd want to go. Do they even speak English in Antarctica?"
Also wanted to let everyone know that I really was kidding about asking for a site membership, I apologize to anyone that might have taken that the wrong way...
Hope she wins this contest mr.-i-never-posted-before-i-wanted-something. |

That is Ok. I'm a former Marine. If I don't follow the norms, feel free to knock me in the head, I'll get the message
I spent 44 months on the ice and think she will have a great time.
I'll go vote for her. just registered and voted... if that is your daughter, please tell her not to get that close to the seals and orca...lol |

You got my vote John Were only 1004 behind It would nice to be 1st. But they pick one out of the top 5. So I see moving into 2nd as something not that far away. And that would put us in a strong position. |
