Good chance they are also fishing for receipts and account info for various platforms. Normally if we're talking Gmail, Yahoo, MS, etc, they can rely on those companies to fork over any info they want, any time they want it; they don't have that ease of access for some of the more privacy-oriented services. It's not that they can't get it, legal or not, it's that Google will also do all the work of gathering it up and serve it to them on a platter with all kinds of fancy cross-referencing. |

Can't start filling the gulags and work camps when there aren't enough thought criminals at hand. The Stasi is busily working to fish for some crimes.

View Quote It doesn't matter how secure your system is if you send data outside your system. Once your email leaves your "encrypted" protonmail it almost certainly goes to an "unencrypted" server. The connection is encrypted, but the data at rest is not encrypted as you'd consider it. I wouldn't trust intra emails sent in protronmail, just like I don't trust protonmail as a whole. If you really want to be secure, make your own security. Due diligence, determine who you trust and want to speak with, create/use a secure system and limit it to those you truly trust. Nobody has time for that. The people with things to hide are hiding it, they aren't using fucking protonmail. If they are, the originators probably covered their tracks and there's nothing to be found. |

Pathetic.

This would be a request on pretty paper by the FBI attache (LEGAT or ALAT) to Swiss law enforcement, who would have to take it to the Swiss court system. I would not be holding your breath or worrying about your darkweb semtex dildo purchases just yet. (“Banging with it is so lifelike!”)

Do they have 200k warrants? If so, the judge should be tried for treason.
We need a lot more regulation on government activities. If a private company violated the amount of laws the gov does, they would get fined trillions, people would be in jail, and the congress would hit both the company itself and individual employees. This framework needs to be turned on the government and government employees. |

Protonmail is denying that they received any such request:

Quoted: What is there to save? 81million verified, bonified votes for biden. There's roughly 400million people here, probably 50 million illegals or more. I'm not sure I believe roughly 40% of the country voted. That seems like a high voter turnout, many places were over 100%, others were nearing 100%. That is bs. I'm not going to fight to save a country for those people. Personally, I think they want us to be divided, so we wont talk to our neighbors or amongst ourselves and find out we agree and can compromise on just about anything. I think they want us to be subject to political ideology dictated by the "higher ups" who have screwed us at every turn for 80 years at least. Many of the people fanning the flames have been in government for almost as long, 40 years+. It's a joke. I think we should stop the divisiveness when we can, to those who are still willing to have a dialog with us, and discuss issues on a personal basis. Some things we wont agree with either way, but if we can at least talk to each other we can at least appreciate that our representatives are fucking us heavily and don't represent us. They are con artists to the highest degree, everything they do is enslavement with extra steps. They don't write legislation, it's all lobbyists group lawyers, they get kick backs and such. The only legislation written by the people for the people was the Constitution. Everything that contradicts that document is a lie. View Quote Ignore him. Maybe it was just a rushed release. I posted a link earlier to their threat model where they say that to/from email addresses and subject lines are (obviously) unencrypted and available to them. They don't log IP addresses by default but have been made to for a specific account by a Swiss court order |

lets reframe the situation in reality.
the FBI has credible evidence that there are 2000 actual terrorist accounts on protonmail are talking about things of interest to national security. all but 20 are faking glowies and 5 of the 20 legitimate threats are US based white males. so the FBI requests protonmail turn over all data related to any white male who has used protonmail from the US in the last 5 years. protonmail will likely turn over the data for half of them and claim a victory for privacy because they only gave them 50% of what they wanted. i hope im wrong, but in reality no company and almost 0 people really care about you or your data. the closest we have to people who give a shit are snowden and assange, and look at how GD views them. |

View Quote The biggest threat to casual users that they can actually do something about in terms of snooping isn't the feds, it's the big tech free email providers, phone and desktop OS makers, and to some extent ISPs. That's because the feds are lazy and simply outsource to big tech as a first resort. Big tech also works hand in hand with leftist political activist groups - this is why cops posting stuff under fake names on FB get busted. Any half-assed privacy-focused browser, VPN, and not using something like Gmail will cut down on your exposure quite a bit. |
