| Do FALS have a last round bolt hold open? |
| Typiclly the British/commonwealth guns had the BHO disabled (L1A1 or "inch" pattern) becuase the BHO stud could snag the back of the mag follower and make it extremly difficult to get the mag out. It is very easy to re-install if you want it just punch out the remains of the ground down pin and either get a roll pin of the proper diameter or use the shank of a small drill bit or similar to fabricate a pin amd then trim/file to the proper length, try to leave it a little long to make sure the aforementioned problem does not occur. The metric of FAL patten guns tend to have the BHO working but you will notice that there has been filing to get the pin just right in length. |

According to the FAL Rifle Classic Edition by R. Blake Stevens 1993 Edition, page 122, Fig 71 " The pin on the front of the holding open catch is not long enough to engage the platform on an empty magazine. The British prefer that, for reliable operations in sand, the FAL action should stay open as little as possible" Makes sense, the British also pioneered the concept of sand cuts for improved reliability in sandy/dusty environments.
