Any of you use an external hard drive? I am looking for one that would attach via USB and hold around 20gigs. Any suggestions on a good one to look for?

Be sure to get one that uses USB 2.0. If your computer is an older one, without a USB 2.0 port, buy a card and install it. They're cheap ( 20 - 30 bucks) and the upgrade in speed is well worth it.
