So I just got home from work, and I've been puzzled by something all day:
Most liberals believe evolution describes life, right? Then why are they so hell bent on correcting Social evolution/Darwinism, both on the individual level, and all the corporate level. They're trying to prop up groups of people, and businesses, against the winds of change. Inner-city folks, GM, etc. This, to me, seems antithetical to their belief in evolution. Hypocrisy much? |

You make a faulty assumption that the majority in our society (the "winds of change" you reference) is somehow against socialism. Fact is, only about 1/4 to 1/3 would be described as anti-socialism, and maybe 1/4 to 1/3 are 100% don't-give-a-shit. There is clearly 1/3 or more that is in favor of socialism. And why not? It's a grand idea. "From each according to his ability, to each according to his need", and let's face it, the vast majority of Americans are not in the "has extra to redistribute to the masses" category. On top of that, they aren't educated as to what REALLY happens to socialist countries. We don't read "Animal Farm" in high school, we read PC bullshit. It's often said that democracies survive only as long as it takes the people to vote themselves more benefits than the nation can produce.

I hope not, because if they try to adopt a "survival of the fittest" mentality and apply it to something Darwin never intended, they don't really understand it. Economics is not analogous to biological evolution, except on a very superficial level. |

Instead, it's the apparent "religious conservative" who started the thread who is.
Hey, since most religious people believe that some supernatural entity created the planet, why don't they all support the bailouts, since it's really analogous to the government "saving" the companies and occasionally causing "the rapture" to elevate their chosen companies to the Promised Land???

Allowing the pool to get cleansed would undermine thier base of power, the "dependency class". |
