I've had a few too many tonight, but I've made some breakthroughs on the writer's block on this book.  I'm sure in the AM it will be mostly nonsensical at a detail level, but the framework and high level concepts will be there.

Damn, maybe I should strat drinking more often.

ETA:  The poison was Newscastle Brown Ale, now migrated to Woodchuck Draft cider.

Disclaimer:  I'm not "at work", and I'm working only for myself.  I would NEVER drink at work.

No, but I used to have a cold one or three on the job back in high school.  Worked the weekends alone, had them stashed in the ceiling.  Would throw a couple into the fridge when I came in, an hour later they were ice cold.

Nothing like potted meat, Captain's Wafers with cream cheese, and an ice cold Coors....for breakfast.

The only brew I can drink that doesn't fuck with my gout or my stomach.  I think it is the lack of excess carbonation.  Three drinks of domestic stuff (Miller/Bud) and my stomach starts rolling.

I have never worked drunk but I wouldn't mind a Newcastle Brown Ale right now. I just got off and I am drinking a glass of Wiser's DeLuxe on the rocks.

I'm not, but trying to be.  My internet prose tends to be a bit less...uh...precise than my normal written word.

Thankfully.

You know, I really don't drink that often, but I've been on a Newcastle kick lately.  Usually, a 6 packs last me a few weeks pretty easily.  Not this week.  Probably has something to do with being jobless.

I'm considering it myself. Thinking of doing a book on Gettysburg. I don't know if I'm good enough at expressing myself in the written word though.

I was on a working party at Camp Pendalton way back when. Our job was to ride around in the back of a pick up and collect trash or clean rooms at various stops. We were dropped off at the bowling alley for lunch. I ordered up a few pitchers. Me and the two other guys I was in charge of worked the rest of the day with an awesome beer buzz.

What can I say? It was a lousey detail and I was mad at the Suck that day.

Sometimes got shitfaced in between shifts as a waiter.

2 of the 3 highest customer totals at a CC I worked at, were done by me when I was plowed.

Check out my beer thread in team, and try some of those suggestions...  maybe you'll find your muse

Newcastle is definitely tasty btw, although I prefer more kick generally

Working drunk without ending up seriously injured/maimed or dead would be very difficult, if not impossible.

I have however worked a number of times while stoned. (Marijuana)
The only time I can do that is if I have everything planned out beforehand, or if the work is tedious/repetitive.

I had a temp job during one college summer, and I went out partying the night before my last day.  I got to work in the morning and couldn't believe how great I felt after such a night.  I was feeling pretty good... too good.  I was still drunk, so it was all downhill from there.  But I've never drank before going to work or while at work, and now I would just stay home if I was that bad in the morning.

I had to write a final paper for a "literature" class (sci-fi) in my last semester of college, so I drank a 6pack or so and headed down to the library.  Within an hour I had a story about robots that talked like Snoop Dogg.  Everyone thougth they had a speech malfunction, but as it turned out, it was secret robot language and they were planning to take over the world.  I'm pretty sure I got an A on that.

Polishing off a bottle of Aftershock with a roommate before going to physics lab was fun, especially when we were doing ac circuits.  It was like Beavis and Butthead.  BZZZZ "heh hehe" BZ BZZZZZ "cool."

I used to get drunk at work sometimes, at an old job. Kept a bottle in my desk.

So did my boss.

So did his boss.

They didn't care, so long as all the data entry was done and the reports were formatted, printed, and collated in the morning. And they always were.

When I worked at a restaurant, we would trade appetizers with the bartenders for shots.  The owner was a coke dealer so he couldnt say much.  I only worked there one summer but it was crazy.

Yes, I did some when I trended bar.  I would say that most bartenders have done so at one time.  Now, never, but I did terminate an employee that was a couple of weeks ago.  Scary part of that is that I work in healthcare.

Yeah, a few times when I was in the Navy.  Didn't have much of a choice in the matter.  I wasn't on duty, it was the weekend, so I was drinking.   Something breaks, no one else can fix it.  Chief (or someone else) comes, picks me up, and I get to troubleshoot servers/routers/wtf-ever hammered off my ass.

BTW, Network administration *is* a lot more fun when you're smashed.

Same thing here.

I never drink when I'm working (or before a scheduled shift), but sometimes somebody gets hurt, you happen to be there in some state of intoxication, and you're the only guy who can help them.  Even if you're halfway in the bag, you're still better than nothing.

That's the only circumstance where I've ever taken care of a patient with anything less than my full faculties... and that's happened precisely one time.

I never drank while on the clock, but when I was a cocktail waitress in a bar after we would close all of us waitresses would sit down at the bar and the bartender would make us a drink of our choice. It was kind of nice to just sit around and chat!  I guess it was about two weeks ago my Friday was hell so I went to Old Chicago's for lunch and ordered a skyy and cran juice.

I worked construction for a little over a year in which a saw all kinds of stuff. Excavator operator would smoke a bowl at every break. Other tractor operators would be sniff'n whatever. Loader operators walking off into the woods to drink beer. I had to keep my eyes on them for my own safety.

Now as far as me being drunk while working, no. I have been drinking at home for a conference call bu I dont think I've ever been drunk.

Had an old friend/drinking buddy who I hadn't seen in years come in to town and met him for lunch. 2 hour lunch break and 4 pints later, I was back at my desk writing reports, buzzing pretty good.

When I was in college, I was a waiter at an upscale restaurant.  One night the only two servers on the floor were me and an old friend of mine.  The chef was his brother and the hostess was my girlfriend.  We started doing shots of Jaegermeister at around 4:00.  When the dinner rush hit at 6, we were all hammered.  I fell down at one of my tables while taking a meal order.  Slurred my words so badly that several of my tables asked if I was ok.  My buddy passed out in the back before 9.  It was not a good night, funny memory though.

Co-worker and I used to go for Liquid Lunch every Friday.  We had our best ideas, and solved the most complex problems, at the bar.

We did wonder back to work shit-faced a time or two.
