Yesterday, an acquaintance described herself as a "chapstick addict".  She reminded me of a guy that can't have a long conversation without taking out and applying his chapstick.

I wonder how commonplace this is.

Holy cow!  I just googled chaptick addiction and found a website for the equivalent of lip balm annonymous!

Addict, no, but during the winter months, I always carry one, here in Florida, because my lips DO
tend to chap easily and to me, it's more annoying than a sucking chest wound.

I wouldn't call myself an addict, but I always carry one.  I use it maybe 3 or 4 times a day.  Would be easy to stop, but my lips will dry out in a couple of days without it.  Not real bad, but they'll be a little flakey.  Annoying as hell.  So I stop it before it starts.

Plus, chicks dig the cherry kind.

So, how often applied makes an addict?
The gal I was talking about was doing it about every 10 minutes on the average.

I have seen women that do that as well. They just eat stuff off over the next 10 minutes.
They should just eat the shit outright and be done with it

no I prefer using a fork.

One thing I always have in my left pocket.... a tube of cherry chapstick.  My lips just get too chapped.  I'm not obsessively applying it, tho.  Usually just a couple times a day.

I got addicted to it from a past GF.  The medicated kind is even worse.  Now I just use it once every couple of days but my lips are chapped a lot.

Burts Bees beeswax lip balm.. My girlfriend swears by the stuff.  If you know a serious chapstick addict, that's the path to their heart.

holy shit, i thought it was just my girlfriend.... sometimes she will be like rummaging around for something like a crack adict looking for a rock and then she grabs the chap stick... she actually has a chapstick holder key chain.

Actually, it all depends on what kind of lip balm is used.  If one of the main ingredients are petroleum or menthol, then while it temporarily soothes the lips, it will eventually cause them to dry out even more, especially if you don't drink enough water every day.  So, your lips get used to being lubricated by the lip balm instead of doing it naturally, and they then become "addicted"  and it is necessary to use the stuff more and more often.

I can't go hardly an hour without a lip balm. I use johnson's baby creme, have since I was small.
When they stopped making it a few years ago. I ordered a few cases of it from johnson and johnson. They said a lot of people had done that.
Hope it lasts.
