[ARCHIVED THREAD] - Emergency Room WTF (Page 1 of 4)

I had to take someone to the ER early this morning. I shit you fucking not I searched desperately for a nurse or any medical staff for 30+ minutes before one came strolling along. Not a soul at the front desk. A 80 year old security guard behind a glass screen asleep. What the fuck is this shit? Is this the norm or should I plan on going else where in emergency situations. Did I mention this was the Emergency Room? I seriously could have bleed out at the entrance of the emergency room and no medical staff would have noticed. I likely would have been found by janitorial staff. |

In all your running around, you probably missed the page button by the check in window... Sure, I could understand that for a doctors office. I can not understand that for medical emergencies. How the fuck is someone not at the front desk of a ER 24/7 The system in place was to fill out a little card and drop it in a box
For the fucking ER |

I realize ER's are "secure" areas where you have to be buzzed in to the exam rooms but even if a couple people are sleeping and the "on duty" person is dropping a deuce kicking a door will tend to bring someone PDQ. |

I eventually did after waiting for about 15 minutes. about another 15 minutes later a nurse finally came through the door to start the whole process. I got a call from my mother around 3am. No words. Just crying. I rushed over. She was so sick she didn't know where she was in her own bed. Maybe dehydrated? I don't know. Ive been to this ER before, and its never been like this. I am fucking pissed though. |

All the staff was probably busy getting food, footies, warm blankets, and dilaudid for the crackheads that come in every day with nothing wrong with them. Their lives matter more than yours. They fill out all the Press Ganey surveys. I see you work in my hospital. What shift are you on? |

I talked to a couple docs that did Drs s Borders and they had some pretty rough conditions. Frankly I'm surprised that deaconess is even available in Bhutan. |

Welcome to obamacare Its kind of always been that way in my area. Obamacare was supposed to fix this problem, but seems like it was a miserable failure. My colon ruptured from Diverticulitis early this year. With a fever of 104.5, I waited in the ER for 3 hours. I would have waited lomger, but went into shock. Fortunately, a fellow in the waiting room noticed me and pounded on the armored glass to get someone's attention. I woke up on the trauma table with a bunch of IVs in me. |

| I used to work at a hospital. When I worked in the ER I was suprised how many people could walk in and out of the lobby without a nurse noticing. Alot of them would bail on the triage duty because of short staffing or they get sick of all the non-emergencies coming in. Between the regulars just wanting their next dosage of pain meds to the stubbed toe, cold, and allergy cases coming in. If anyone came in with what I thought was a real issue (heavy bleeding, chest pains, signs of a stroke) I would go get a nurse. |

What was the "emergency"? Moms been sick for a few days. This woman has missed 3 work days in her entire career. 2 of them being the last 2 days. She called in the middle of the night crying and couldn't talk. I go over and shes so sick she doesn't know where she is. Couldn't move under her own power. I consider than an "emergency" |
