Dear Hivemind,

I sadly know nothing about repairing electrical components.

I had a couch delivered.  During the delivery the workers smashed an electrical fixture with the couch.
I did not see the incident, but my wife described a shower of sparks.  She is not prone to exaggerate.
Now the light bulb is broken and a new light bulb will not light up.

What is damaged?
How much will it cost to have the furniture company fix it?

BTW It's an old fixture, but the wiring in the house is new.

did you check the breaker?

Breaker is good.  Thank you.

Changing a lighting fixture is very easy.  Learning how to do it can save you hundreds, maybe even thousands of dollars over your lifetime of owning houses as you update bathrooms, kitchens, bedrooms, etc.

ETA:  Are you looking to just replace the fixture (old/not sentimental), or are you looking to have the fixture repaired?

be sure the switch is OFF....
take out screws holding in fixture to junction box.
see if wireing was pulled out from set screw in the fixture.

really easy once you get over the fear of getting shocked..

if the wires are pulled out, reconnect black on one side, red  on the other OR black/white, white/ green, white /red etc..just be sure the 2 wires are on oppsite sides of the
fixture set screws..tighten, test by turning on light.

if that isnt it
the interior socke may be cracked,,go to Home Depot, buy new fixture, instructions are included,,really simple fix

I dunno.

Maybe you know someone with a Mancard that can just come over and fix it?

Make sure the breaker is off before you remove the fixture, not just the switch.  The could be a hot wire in the j-box even if the switch is off.

Better off having him kill the breaker in this situation.   If he doesn't know what he is looking at, shutting off the switch only without knowing about or if there is switch loop or if it is fed from the switch can give him a surprise.

A machismo slam to someone who knows nothing about electricity could easily lead to a dead macho man. OP, search the internet for a basic home wiring tutoral. It's actually very simple to comprehend, but deadly if you don't have a basic knowledge of it.

Definitely invest in a multimeter and learn how to use it.

What is the electrical fixture?  A lamp?  Or did they damage the outlet/receptacle?

Picture of damaged fixture?

While you can certainly repair this yourself, electrical work needs to be done with due care and caution.  It's not clear to me exactly what's damaged here.

I would call the company that del. the sofa, file a complaint....have THEM pay for New fixture AND an Electricians time!! After you get the check from them
Go buy a new light of your choice...pocket the rest of the cash and install it yourself...it's VERY easy to do, and if you get stumped...you have us here to
guide you through    no, really...several of us are actually qualified..

That was the plan, but I don't know how much money to get from the company.

Go Look at the value of a new fixture....then call some sparkys for a few quotes....that will give you a base idea of what to ask them for.
They MIGHT want to see the quote or invoice of the work done...THEN they cut a check AFTER all that is done...if that is the case, you will have
to prove you spent X amount for repairs.....
