Yeshua was crufied in conjunction with the Passover, and Easter is the celebration of His resurrection.

Easter was on 27 March, and Passover is coming up 23/24 April.

Why is there almost a month separation between them now?

Brohawk,

I think it has to do with the differences between the Jewish calendar and the Christian Calendar.  Additionally, now that I think about it, Passover celebrates the Holy Spirit passing over the houses of the faithful who painted blood on their doors.  Those who didn't had their firstborn slain.  (I think that is how it went...I haven't had enough caffeine yet.)

Have some coffee.

It could be the difference between a solar calendar and a lunar calendar, or maybe it's just another greeting card conspiracy like Grandparents' Day, Boss' Day, etc...

Who cares?

Easter is not in the Bible - do it whenever you like. Passover is obsolete - its not presently authorized by God anymore.

BOTH  are all about mans need for something more than what God gives him.

Easter is indeed not in the Bible.  I have no problem with commemorating the resurrection, but without the pagan trappings from Ishtar (fertility symbols of eggs and rabbits).

As for Passover, the Messiah was foretold in the symbolism of the biblical holidays, and observing Passover was commanded by Yahweh.

What about this:

Get rid of the old yeast that you may be a new batch without yeast–as you really are. For Christ, our Passover lamb, has been sacrificed. Therefore let us keep the Festival, not with the old yeast, the yeast of malice and wickedness, but with bread without yeast, the bread of sincerity and truth. (1Cor 5:7-8)

This would seem to indicate we should keep the biblical holiday from a Messianic perspective on the spirit of the day.

Why in the world would Christians not celebrate 'Resurrection Sunday'????

I cannot believe all of these new 'inconoclasts' who exist in Christendom nowadays!

St. Paul delivers a very pungent direction for the Church:

Who art thou that judgest another man's servant? to his own master he standeth or falleth. Yea, he shall be holden up: for God is able to make him stand.

One man esteemeth one day above another: another esteemeth every day alike. Let every man be fully persuaded in his own mind.

He that regardeth the day, regardeth it unto the Lord; and he that regardeth not the day, to the Lord he doth not regard it. He that eateth, eateth to the Lord, for he giveth God thanks; and he that eateth not, to the Lord he eateth not, and giveth God thanks.
Romans, Chapter 14. verses 4-6

If some Christians wish to 'esteem' what has come to be referred to as 'Easter Sunday', or even the season of 'Christmas', and they do it 'unto the Lord' what in the dickens are y'all 'latter day Pharisees' trying to do?

'Quench the Spirit'????

Good Lord, y'all, why doesn't the Church just fold its flag and retreat into the mountaintops and live out its remaining days clothed in white robes, or sackcloth and ashes?

Hmmm?

You may be surprised to know that the 'suspicious' word 'Passover' did not even exist before William Tyndale coined it for the 'Tyndale Translation' of the Bible of 1526-31.

This translation was the first English Bible to use the name 'Easter' to describe 'Resurrection Sunday.'

Previously the Hebrew and Greek words were left untranslated. For example, in Wycliffe's Translation of the  Bible, which was based on the Latin Vulgate, we find simply 'pask' or 'paske' for pascha.

Amazing what you can learn on the Internet!

You talkin' to me?

If you want to hit the press to test button on spiritual liberty, take an electric guitar into your local Church of Christ and play along with the hymns.

Not necessarily, but if you think I am, maybe I am.

I never said that anyone has freedom to add to worship services, but whether or not they celebrate Christmas or Resurrection Sunday, is a matter that is left up tp them individually!

I celebrate both, but not INSIDE the worship services itself!
