Why do you attempt to improve the efficiency of any kind of vehicle?

If carbureted cars are so great, why'd they invent fuel injection?

When they show you perfectly functional units, but no test data, its because the data is bad.

I have doubts it can pay for it’s own weight in battery life.

Yep. Especially if two of them run around five grand. I wonder how heavy the units are.

Far too little energy generated to pay for the weight and capital cost.
They still haven't made regenerative braking really work, yes you get a sudden surge of electricity but it's so sudden and large the battery can't store most of the energy; the chemical reactions that store the energy happen too slowly. Capacitors, that can be charged fast enough to absorb the energy from braking, need to be added to the overall system before regenerative braking starts providing enough energy to matter.

Even a best case situation like Michigan roads wouldn't justify the added cost and parasitic penalties due to weight.  It's an idea that makes general sense just like solar panels on the roof, it's just not efficient enough when you look at the big picture.

And yes, I know there are some applications here or coming with solar panels on cars, but it's a luxury surprise and delight type feature.  Not one that really makes sense when you evaluate on functional merits.

Seems like EV owners will do anything and spend a fortune to validate their beliefs so why not turn a profit selling them snake oil?

I would like more information on the oil, is this a process of "milking" the snake to get the oil, or does the snake need to be ground up and flattened to extract the oil.  Assuming the latter, I'm in....because fuck snakes....I'll gladly buy the oil of dead snakes.

My Tesla regeneratively brakes at about 60kw.  I've watched a Tesla battery gain dozens of miles of range in real time from a negative elevation change out in Nevada.

Yes, you are correct that you can not recapture the majority of the energy when you slam the brakes but 60kw of braking is highly significant.  Enough so that single pedal driving is more than feasible.  If that's not an accurate test of regenerative braking "working" or not then I don't know what is.
