I've got a two wheel drive 2000 Dodge Durango and have always kept the stock size tires on it. It came with P235 75R15s and I'd like to get a size larger tire now. It certainly looks like there's room in the wheel wells. I have been looking at Bridgestone Dueller HTs and would like to know if anyone knows what size tire the stock aluminum wheels can take and what size tire the truck will take without a lift or any other kind of mod. Thanks. |
| Are you talking bigger as in taller or wider or both? If you go for a wider tire you need to watch to see how much room there is in the front end for steering and if there is enough room for the tire at all points of the suspension travel. For taller tires you need to make sure that there is enough room for the tire at all points of travel and steering. Also taller tires it is a good idea to have the computer updated for the taller tires so shift points and speedometer stay correct. You may notice a reduction in fuel mileage with larger tires too. I would suggest a 245/70R15, it is the same height and a little wider tread, the factory rims should work and you wont have to update the computer. |
| Thanks ckyllo. I went to www.1010tires.com and entered my vehicle in their tire finder deal and it showed the correct stock size, and has three suggested "plus sizes" -- 255/65R16, 255/60R17 and 255/55R18. Knowing very little about tires, those sizes sound like I'd have to buy new wheels as well. No thanks on that little up-sell. |
