Wonder what would happen if we were able to just “call their bluff”. Wouldn’t actually be calling their bluff, because the consequences of actually following through would be catastrophic.
But if we just said, “fuck it, what’s another 14 trillion? YOLO,” would they respond with, “hol’up, we didn’t think you’d actually agree, we can’t actually do this…”? Would be interesting. This led to a large payment of over $1billion in settlement claims to Native American tribes for the mistreatment by Federal government. The German government and other organizations paid billions of dollars in compensation to the individuals and organizations affected by the Holocaust, including Holocaust survivors, since the 50s. 1988 Reagan signed the "Civil Liberties Act" giving $20K to the Japanese Americans impacted by the intenment camps during WW2. Jan. 1865, General William Tecumseh Sherman issued "Field Order No. 15", prescribed land redistribution of 40 Acres per former Slave. The mules were meant to be lended by Army so this coined the term "40 Acres and a Mule". President Andrew Jonson(Lincoln's successor) overturned the order in the Fall of 1865. |
