I'm building a PC for the kids. The motherboard supports dual channel memory so I've picked up two 1GB DDR2 cards. There are 4 memory slots they connectors alternate blue/yellow/blue/yellow. With a gap between the first pair of blue/yellow with the second pair. (See it here) My understanding of dual channel memory is if paired you get faster access. So is the memory properly 'paired' if I put the memory cards in the blue slots or if they are in a blue/yellow slot pair? The manual does not contain any information on this. Thanks. |
Blue slots or yellow slots. When installing two memory modules with most boards, you install them staggered, with an empty socket in between them.....so in this case the color matching slots. Normally, the memory modules are laid out (starting with the one closest to the CPU slot) Slot 0 -> Slot 2 -> Slot 1 -> Slot 3....so even though the modules seem to be spaced out, they are actually paired. |
