After reading the responses to the post about the Lab that was shot by the police, I was wondering what kind and how many dogs you all have. We have two Norwegian Elkhounds who are shedding like crazy right about now.

2 five month old rotties. Good dogs, they watch out for us. They also eat like horses.
Wife has a chihuahua. Dont laugh. If anything is wrong, shell bark, and that's all she has to do.
I just got a german shepherd-husky-wolf-newfoundland mixed mutt. Smart BIG puppy. She'll be my outside perimiter defense system, and cat population control device.[;d] Eric |
A yellow and a chocolate labrador.
The yellow is mellow, the chocky is a skitzo !!! [x] |
I currently have 3 mutts. Smallest is something that looks like the Taco Bell dog. Smart as hell and can read my mind. Middle is a medium size mutt that looks like... a mutt off the street. Smart and very quiet until strangers come close to the house. Finally, the third is a big mutt. He looks like a very large (120lb) Lab. Very gentle and playful and can lick the icecream off a kids face faster than blinking an eye. He does have a very dark deep bark that sounds like a Great Dane.
All my life I had dogs. My father was a vet and always liked dogs so we sometimes had as many as 6 or 7 at a time and never had less than 2. All three of my current dogs were "discarded" ones my wife and I adapted. These dogs are our "kids" since we don't have real kids yet. |
An English Mastiff and a Golden Retriever. Would like to get another E.M. I would also like to get a Kuvas(?) and a Fila at some point in the future.
Our Elkhounds are excellent watchdogs. If the cat across the street sneezes, they will let us know.
BTW, Uncle Buck, what are we still doing awake at this hour. We have a big day ahead of us tomorrow! I only have a 40 minute drive, how about you? |
I love the American Pit Bull Terrier. A fine breed, the best dog in the world IMO, and much maligned and misrepresented by the press - kinda like ARs and gun owners.
Here is Gator in "78. You are sorely missed.. PS a pit that will bite people is not a real pit and should be put down. |
Between me and my wife, we have 4 dogs. The Chihuahua is the smallest next we have a miniature Dachsund, Then a mixed bread we adopted off the street, that looks like a pit bull and yellow lab mixed. Then my favorite is my 9 year old RHODESIAN RIDGEBACK. I have also owned a few very gentle pit bulls, but never had them around kids.[shotgun][pistol][sniper]

I have an Australian Cattle Dog. aka blue heeler. Absolutely great breed. Smart, not very big(mine is 45 lbs.), and absolutely tough as nails.
I'm stuck in a townhouse with no yard and tend to work long hours so it would be unfair to the dog if I had one.
But atleast one of those factors will be changing in the next year or two, and when that happens I'll be going for a Ridgeback. http://rrcus.org/Articles/sfFAQs.html |

PIT BULL
Got a bitch dog and she is hands down the best dog I've ever had. AND I TRUST HER AROUND KIDS. I have been around quite a few pit bulls, and have yet to find one who I wouldn't trust around kids, though I'm sure there is the exception. Pit bulls are great dogs. I actually had a vet who dealt with ALOT of pit bulls say that in ten years in business that he had never had a pit bull turn on him. He said that the same couldn't be said about poodles. You narrow minded people who are quick to judge pit bulls should read a Richard Stratton book and learn why these dogs aren't the baby killers the press has made them out to be. That being said, I love all dogs. MORE THAN MOST PEOPLE. At least a dog is honest. |

He has more personality than you can ever imagine, he shows happieness and sadness, he can even let you know when you have upset him beacause he'll turn his back to you and won't look at you. The only thing is that they can get depressed and will chew knot's on themselves. It's nothing that prozak won't fix. |
I had a German Shepherd and Saint Bernard. Funny combination, but they really complemented each other well.
Pit bulls get a bad rep in the press, and that makes me sick!! The closed minded bastards don't tell you that the dog has been inbreed and beaten on a daily basis to make it mean so they can fight the dog in illegal fights. And don't get me started on that!!

That LAB got shot where I live. The saddest part of the incident was they were both doing their jobs (the Cop and the Lab I.E.protecting his home). My family just had to put to sleep our GreatDane because she bit a little girl(in the face) that was visiting our house and had possibly tried to take turkey from the dog, may she rest in peace.

Our critters are a Chow/Shepherd, a Cocker Spaniel, a Chow/Husky and a Belgian Shepherd. We have a 4 year old Grand Daughter that they consider to be part of their pack. She even charges in/out of the doggy door with them!
Ya'll should consider the Tracking chip for your dogs. You cant really "track" them but it is great ID if they get lost. Take care, Mac. Mac's Shootin' Irons http://www.shootiniron.com |

I black female lab named Alli "Gator" Green. She is my ray of sunshine.

Wolves. We have raised a large number of pure wolves and wolf-hybrids over the years. We have raised over 50 cubs, but no longer breed. We just have a male and female at this time. The photo above is my 7 year old alpha male. He is MacKenzie Valley timberwolf. My female is a tundra wolf. She is 8 years old and now spayed. We have a Rhodesian Ridgeback male - 2 years old, fiercely protective of the home and family, and the most loving dog imaginable.
He's shorter and broader in the chest than most ridgebacks, at 110 lbs.; the breed is recent and he doesn't look anything like his father. We got him at 4 months, and he thinks he's one of the children. We've had cats, but there's nothing like a loving dog. |
We've got 6 dogs. Two Akitas and 4 mutts. Just dropped $465 last week on heartworm pills. Also got five lazy cats.
Nobody laugh, but I have shih-tzu. (For all you idiots its pronounced "shi - zoo") When raised correctly great breed. When not, absolute bitch.
Tracker, that is a cute little fellow. Maybe a little wolf in Bear too!

Dogs! Dogs! Dogs! Love them, dogs!
I have two large and loyal dogs that are a lot of fun to have at home. My two canine "best friends" are always considered special members of my family and deserve the best from me. These two lucky dogs have an above-average size back yard at my home to use as their playground. In the back yard are two sturdy dog houses built by a craftsman for each one of them. But instead of sleeping in their own respective dog houses, they prefer to come inside my home at night. I always did give them a choice to stay out or come inside if they want, anyway. Of course, they always choose the latter! Which is totally fine with me! They are also great at being my own personal body guards when I'm asleep. Note: My dogs identities, pictures, and heritage were purposely omitted to protect their privacy. [;)]...like their owner! [Oh, shoot! Edited because I've just realized that I did state my heritage in some of my posts! Oh, well!] -RoadDog |

I have 2 Chocolate labs. One is almost 4 yrs old, and 95 pounds of digging, chewing, duck retrieving muscle, and the other is a little under 2 years old, and not going to be as large a dog, hes about 60 lbs. Funny thing is I love them two pain in the arses more than just about anything.

My German shephard saved my life by giving me two seconds and I'm still not over losing him. That being said, my Filo Braselero (Brazilian Mastiff) is the most awesome animal I've ever been around - he is FEARLESS, over 200lbs of solid muscle but is great with my young kids. We also have 3 Kerilean Bear dogs. I've never liked small dogs but these are a trip. The next valley over from me in Glacier, they started taking problem bears and putting Kerileans on them. 52 Griz in 2 years and not one has returned.
