Wing Chung and Shaolin are different sides of the same coin.
The human body can only move in so many ways, so most martial arts overlap. The difference really become the emphasis on the types of strikes and locations. Wing Chung really likes a thrust punch type of strike with the fist. The also do a lot of elbow work and blocks. (Pak Sau, Lop Sau, etc) Wing Chung De-emphasizes kicks (too much IMNSHO), but it does have them. Shaolin can like a lot of big movements, a lot of circular stuff. Pua Kua, comes to mind in this regard. Shaolin puts a lot more emphasis on the animals - so you will get a lot of different "looks" to the styles. Most people tend to favor one of the animal styles. Tigers are direct. Cranes will stand off more, Leopards are quick, snakes are sneaky, etc. The old saying is when two tigers fight, one will die, the other goes to the hospital. Personally, while I like Wing Chung, I found it lacking. Shaolin is closer to what I like, but lately Kempo seems to be the ticket for me. Quoted:
