I'm just curious because they are one of my favorite bands.  A lot of my close friends like them, but they're still not "mainstream" by any means.  What are your favorite lyrics, songs, albums?

And if you've never heard them, here are some songs for you:
Night on the Sun
Neverending Math Equation
Ocean Breathes Salty
Missed the Boat

My son and I went to see them.  I was triple the age of most.  We were in the front  and it was a great concert.  Man Man opened for them.

"Float On" is the only song I know of theirs.

But I don't really keep up with the latest music of any band typically.

Maybe compared to good music, like Kid Rock and Nickelback.

WAIT WAIT WAIT JUST A FUCKING MINUTE...........

You said in my Citizen Soldier thread

Maybe I'm just a music snob. But I prefer a little lyrical quality to my music.

And now you post a thread about Modest Fucking Mouse?!!?

Lets see some MM lyrics...

I backed my car into a cop car the other day.

Well he just drove off, sometimes life's OK.

I ran my mouth off a bit too much, oh what did I say?

Well you just laughed it off, it was all OK.
And we'll all float on OK. And we'll all float on OK.

And we'll all float on OK. And we'll all float on anyway.
Well, a fake Jamaican took every last dime with that scam.

It was worth it just to learn some sleight of hand.

Bad news comes, don't you worry even when it lands.

Good news will work its way to all them plans.

We both got fired on exactly the same day.

Well we'll float on, good news is on the way.
And we'll all float on OK. And we'll all float on OK.

And we'll all float on OK. And we'll all float on.

Alright already, we'll all float on.

No don't you worry. We'll all float on.

Alright, already. We'll all float on.

Alright, don't worry. We'll all float on.
And we'll all float on.

Alright already, we'll all float on.

Alright, don't worry even if things end up a bit too heavy.

We'll all float on.
Alright already, we'll all float on.

Alright already, we'll all float on OK.

Don't worry, we'll all float on.

Even if things get heavy, we'll all float on.

Alright already, we'll all float on alright.

Don't you worry, we'll all float on.

We'll all float on.

My least favorite album is Good News for People Who Love Bad News, but I still love it.  Isaac Brock and friends just cannot make bad music, even if they tried.

LOW2000, its because of your thread I started this one.  Float On is not a very "deep" song, although is is clever in places and has a point.  In marked distinction to Citizen Soldier, which is filled with cliche's and sounds like it was written in an hour.

I like the iron horse covers of their songs better.

MM has only received mainstream recognition with their last two albums, which are not even their better releases.  In the sense of their music as a whole, they are rather unappreciated and not mainstream.  This was what I meant by that comment.

You wasted post 223 on a Modest Mouse thread.

Not a waste at all.    This response is sort of what I expected.  You either love 'em or hate 'em.

I thought they were catchy to begin with, but, like all new bands, they showed up on MTV, VH1, overplayed on the radio, and became tacky teen heart throbs.

I tend to stay away from all forms of commercialized music. I personally think that no matter the resolve of the band, eventually, and without exception, it loses its heart and creativity.

To each his own though.

ETA: FOr example, I am a HUGE Sublime fan, and absolutely refuse to listen to their self-titled album. It is the result of the above mentioned problems.

I don't like them at all, but if you like 'em, that's cool with me. Music is a personal thing, if you like the way something sounds, listen to it, who cares what other people think.
