I save all of my gun magazines (the books, not the cartridge feeding devices) to show my future children one day. Anyway I got to pondering weather another assault weapons ban will ever come to fruition.

I don't think one will be passed in the immediate future, but I'm not ruling it out completely either. It would only take some drumming up from the press, and another resurgence of anti-gun groups, and I believe a ban could easily happen then. Even with the current rulings, I could see any attempt to repeal it being shot down assuming a majority of the supreme court Justices are liberals at the time of its passing.

What say you, arfcom?

i get the feeling that the current administration would be the type to do it, just to thumb everyone in the eye.

Lots of heads in the sand here.

If you honestly think the most socialist-minded, power-hungry, America-hating administration we've ever seen is going to let a bunch of angry rednecks keep their guns, you're smoking crack.

It's on the horizon. And no... I'm not in gun sales

After all you cant use one for deer hunting, and in the end everyone knows that is why the 2A was drafted, for hunting.

Education of the masses will be the determining factor, if we allow the media to inform everyone we are screwed.

Based on the Heller ruling, I don't think any outright ban is in the cards anymore. Honestly I feel like the argument has swung in our direction, just look at the proliferation of concealed carry laws across the country. I fully expect that gun laws will be more permissive in 20 years as opposed to less.

The next big victory for us will be a court ruling on the permissible level of scrutiny for the second amendment. If we get that then I think it would be the final nail in the gun control coffin.

Unfortunately, yes.  As the population of the US grows, it becomes more liberal.  Also, why do you think all the recent Democratic Supreme Court nominees have been women?  Because women live longer than men, which skews the court in a liberal direction over time.

I think there will eventually be an effort to ban pretty much everything that's perceived as " for men only".   With this in mind, y'all might want to be little nicer to me so I'll be around to put in a good word for you when the crunch comes.

The next ban won't be about assault rifles. The next ban will be about banning the next evolutionary jump in conventional firearms technology.

Lasers, smartguns, electronic rail guns, this is where the battle is heading.

IMHO

a 99.99999999% ban with onerous licensing and registration schemes would still be legal (barring a SCOTUS case that actually determines scrutiny). take a look at the roadblocks DC and chicago threw up after having their laws overturned.

I don't know, the Brady campaign has lost credibility with the left and really the only people that take them serious anymore are themselves.

It would take a string of mass casualty shootings or a mumbai terror event.

I was thinking just the opposite after Heller because of the "reasonable restrictions" portion of the ruling.  We will never see the AWB again because of the negative associations the name carries.  In the new future we will see CA types laws prohibiting mags over 10rds, no bayo lugs, no "shoulder thingies that go up". They will  toss a bunch of new bans in there as well, stuff like forward grips.  They will do it all calling it "reasonable restrictions".  Good news is they won't bring it up until the economy is back on track, at least 5 years from now.

yes it will by the dems.  The repubs will just point and say "well they did it not us."  So they won't have to do it themselves.
