I do, I'm a MS coach and it is a great tool to reach out with a single text from your phone that will be sent to 20 parents to get ready to pick up their kids etc.

I Tweet, have LinkedIn, have Facebook, etc. It is all for professional work reasons.
I teach a social media (SM) course to senior execs, write SM policies for companies and am sometimes called in to do SM audits on employees 
The audits can be very entertaining at times. It is amazing what Joe Public will say online about the company and not think twice about using his name. I also use SM for the piracy work I do. SM is huge and growing bigger every day. It will completely dominate our lives soon in one form or another. Hell, I use SM to book my hotels, make my flights, schedule car and drivers for me when I fly to a city I dont know, order food service on line, pay and monitor all my bills, do my banking, etc. |

I have no followers on Twitter (and delete the scammers who do follow) and have found if I follow too much about 60 people that it's just a bunch of noise.
I mostly follow tech people, with a couple gun people/companies tossed in. |

What's the purpose of Twitter? What kind of real value can it add to my life, vs another source of clutter? (Honest questions)
I have a few friends on FB (who are actual, real-life friends). It's a means to stay in touch a little more since we've gotten so spread out geographically. However, I don't use it for telling the world what I had for lunch or that I'm taking the dog for a walk. |

look at it this way guys. I use social media as a business tool as much as a way to keep up with friends. following or liking my favorite companies lets me know when new products are launched or when a deal is going on (sometimes way before other outlets)

I uses it as a newswire. If you have a certain topic you follow like #FastandFurious or #nascar, you can search the hashtag and find every reference to stuff other people have found. After a while you find people with common interest to Follow. I mostly search for what I'm interested in and just skim the main feed. Often you'll find things missed by the media or not indexed by google yet. |
