...that if you use it you'll lose it to LE?
Poll inbound. |
I'm not blessed with it in this state, but that would not be my style.
I downgrade my XD45 to a used gen 2 Glock 17 that I got in a pawnshop for $300 when I fly somewhere just incase it gets lost or stolen with my luggage.
HELL NO! That is just plain stupid. Carry the very best you can.
Already lost my nicest carry gun (and 11 grand) to the cops........
Whats one more? |
I use the best of what I have. In my state we have several laws to protect us if we are involved in a justifiable shooting. even if the laws were not there my life is worth more to me than any gun, so I would still carry the best of what I have. Ed Brown, Kobra Carry.

I use the tool that I believe will get the job done the best.
I voted no, but I do think of that delema often, more so with my AR.
I carry the best (which happens to also be the most expensive) pistol I own.

I have multiple XD .40s. I would be sad to lose one, but whole a lot more upset if it didn't go bang when I needed it.

If we were allowed to defend ourselves in this country I would carry a reliable and good quality gun, but it would not be my most prised gun I have, not because I don't trust the Beretta with my life, but I'd rather the cops take a Glock off me then the Beretta, both are awesome guns, both are reliable as anything on the planet and I would not hesitate to trust my life or the lives of my family to either of them, I just like the Beretta a bit more, always have and alway will.
So yes, if the laws in this place were not in favour of protecting the raping, killing maggots in society and we, the average law abiding citizen were actually trusted enough to actually be given a fighting chance against said maggots of society then I would carry a gun which I would be less concerned about losing to the cops but which is as reliable and trustworthy as my favorite gun. |
I use the gun I am best with for carry. I can see why someone with a pristine Korth revolver might leave it at home to prevent the wear and tear caused by daily carry. Otherwise sounds like a penny wise pound foolish idea to me.
I downgrade my truck guns for fear of them being stolen.
Reliable but cheap. |
Considering that my Glock 17 is my most expensive pistol, I'd say no. Maybe it sometime down the line it came to choosing between carrying a pristine WW1 1911 vs a modern Springfield Armory 1911, I'd obviously choose the latter.

The thought never entered my mind.
I do carry a cheap Taurus 5 shot revolver because it's easier than strapping on my my 1911 though. Not because i might lose it.
Absolutely not. The Glock will also fair well covered in blood for awhile.

I have multiples of my carry gun. Best handgun in the world, Glock 17.

I have two of everything.
If they confiscate one, I'll just break out the other! |
I have been arrested while CCW.
I picked it up the next day at the property room and even had my ammo returned. The cop lady merely asked that I not reload it until I got outside. |
nope...it depends on my mood that day, not what might happen. Some days its a G32 or a G30, some days it is a Sig 220 or a 229, some days, like today it's my Nighthawk Talon II.
Whatever feels "right" when I open the safe is what I carry that day. |

I plead to a $69 trespassing charge (infraction , not even a misdomeanor) not realizing that meant they could keep the Colt, although I probably would have done it anyway cause I was about out of money at that point... As a side note , the gold cup was locked in the car and had NOTHING to do with anything else. I was a half mile from the car when it went down.... but was seized anyway, Friend of mine that was a sargent in that department later told me "that Sargent does not think anyone but cops should have guns , thats the whole reason that shit got any traction at all" Not going to get into a whole lot of details cause I don't feel like 17 pages of "you're lying" , "you're not telling us the whole story" and "no cop would do that" If you're that interested I'll send you an IM later |
No because when the SHTF I want my reliable SIG on me regardless than a cheaper alternative
WHat are you asking? If I dont carry because im afraid law enforcement will take my gun????
Absolutely not.
The only time I downgrade is when I need to carry 100% certainly undetected. I have a Ruger LCP that serves that role, but normally carry my Sig when that alternative is possible. |
Hell no.
If LE takes my G17 for some reason, I'll just reach in the safe and pull out another one. |

My life's worth it. This The one time you might have to draw your CCW in your lifetime and you want it to be a crap 1911? Bad idea. |

That doesnt happen here, even after I am cleared in the case, I then have to refile in court to get a hearing to get my property back, they will not return any ammo and say "thanks for the voluntary donation' and hand me what was a nice pistol that will now be all scratched up, dinged and maybe even have a case number electro penciled INTO the gun, and if said gun happens to not be in my name(FTF sales are big here and legal) Id probably never get it back even if I posessed at the time of arrest and there (obviously) no report of it being stolen |

That's the case in most places. It is disgusting really, that one has to fight to get back property confiscated upon arrest. |

Never even thought about it. I just carry what I think I might need that day.

Of course that was easier for me to do with Glocks, there us no way I could afford the same amount of 1911s. I am a glock koolaid drinker, but I would really like a Ed brown 1911 someday, and it would be a safe queen, witch would be a waist. |

I have a good relationship with the local PD.
I would get it back after the investigation was finished. |

My assumption is that if I am ever involved in a shooting, or even have to draw, be it with a pistol or a long gun, my permit is going to be pulled, at least throughout the investegation. Depending on specifics, even if the shooting is justified and I was not charged with anything, it is within the realm of possibility that getting that back could be difficult. I also assume (especially if the shooting is in my home) that the rest of my collection would be siezed, at least for evidence purposes or more likely, for "safekeeping" while they figure out that I am not a murderer. So, I carry whatever I want...within the law. Of course, I don't own anything particularly valuable anyways.
