I am wondering who all here tithes? I mean you give 10 percent of your income (all of it, before taxes) to the church, If so why do you do it.

I already give more than 1/3 of my money to the Government, why would I give some church another 1/10th?

When i learned my local bishop has a $1,000,000++++++ beach house somewhere, and how my local priests go on more and much nicer vacations then my extended family combined, i quit giving money. The church has enough money.

If there is a God, I doubt he wants to tax me.

Yes, In my current situation I am more than capable of taking out 10%. Although I am not commanded to give it to my synagogue, just 'charity' whichever one I choose.

I would be happy to tithe if the government wasn't already insisting on spending my money on every charity cause under the sun, worthy or not.

Seperation of church and state works both ways IMO, keep the state out of marriage, welfare, and other such foolishness and the reason for a tithe becomes very clear and compelling.

Payiing church employees and missionaries to go knock on peoples doors isn't so high on the list.

My uncle, the youngest of my dads brothers, is a minister. Gets sent around the world and all his expenses, his families expenses, are paid. So much so that his wife told me they were able to invest his entire salary in the market for the four years he was in Romania, and you should have seen the house they lived in, it was a palace, really unbelievable in such a poor country.

Then there's the kids I knew from church growing up who still call me occasionally when they want to raise donations so they can go on a "mission" to Tahiti or France or Buenos Aeries.

Nah, I'll handle any charity work needs doing personally thanks.

If you are ever tempted to tithe, tell God you want a receipt.  Not the dumb F^%K pastor, you want a receipt from God!

If you still want to hand money to another human being claiming to work for God, become a pastor so you can pass the collection plate yourself.

I am 24.  I have been to church (besides weddings/funerals) once in my life and that was on my own accord back when I was about 10 years old. So no, I have not donated anything.

If someone wants to donate that is their prerogative.  We have some pretty nice churches in the area so I hope you are happy to those who have donated to.  I don't find myself as a particularly religious person, but if that is your view, more power to you.
