I need some kind of extra filtration system. Our water is from a well and were getting a calcium film on our dishes. Just started a few days ago. Wife insisted is wasnt the water and made me run out and spend 500 bucks on a new one. Well the new one leaves the powdery film.

Is there an extra small type of cartridge filter that would work and screw in the flexible closet lines?

Sorry, Im sure theres one out there but me finding stuff on the internet doesnt seem to work in my favor.

Do you already have a water softener?

No its spring fed and the minerals are bad enough to cause any problems showering washing clothes etc. No build up in toilets, shower curtains, tubs and it even tastes great. Its just for some reason theres enough calcium in it that causes problems in the dishwasher.

I don't buy it. First of all, they include a carbon filter, so that should remove the chlorine taste. No problem here. But when it comes to water softening, they are very nebulous, and even admit that they don't remove the minerals which cause hardness in the first place. There is no way to soften water without pulling out the calcium and/or magnesium. The fact that they don't explain the technology only strengthens my belief that it's alchemy.

Have you ever had your water tested? That's the only way to know for sure. Dishwashers tend to be finnicky when it comes to clogging valves with calcium deposits. A water softener would definitely help; a new dishwasher may be less susceptible to clogging, but I'm not sure.

My advice would be to have the water tested first before you even think about a solution.

If you're not having problems anywhere else, why do you think it's the water?  Could it be you're using too much soap?

Its powdery and theres an elevated calcium content in the last test. I found one called a Difi, but it seems that its just a cartridge filter I see no mention of a magnet so Im wondering if it would reduce the calcium and magnesium in the dishwasher.

Its a new dishwasher installed, and as for soap we use the rinse agent and one of those Cascade ampule type prepackaged detergent things.

Try doubling the rinse agent (Or try one of the solid type rinse aids, if you are not doing so)  and check to see if the water to the DW is plenty hot. You can also try adding a bit of borax or White Vinigar to the rinse tray. If you start filtering, you will be replacing filters often, I think. You can solve your problem with chemistry. Do a google search on: "hard water dishwasher soap" Then try some of the various suggestions until you have success.
