Window is 12-5 today.  Guy calls around 11:45 for directions.  Gets here, does a site survey, we get everything figured out as far as dish placement, cable runs, etc.

Cable goes in easily, I already had the holes drilled, etc.

Get the dish set up, then start with the receivers.

Get the HD DVR out, make all the connections, get it in the entertainment center, then plug it in.  HDD spins up and away it goes.

Sound wasn't there for a minute and I'm behind the TV checking connections.  Installer grabs the receiver (while on) and pulls it out of the entertainment center.  I hear a funny noise, but didn't think a lot of it.

Less than 5 minutes later, DVR powers down and won't come back on.  Do believe he FUBAR'ed it by jiggling it around while it was running.

He had to drive 35 minutes back to the warehouse to get another.

Other than that the install going quite nicely.  Good signal, etc.

I'm not a big tipper, but I think I'll toss him a Jackson.  First time I've EVER had someone do work inside my house.  He's a good one.

New DVR up and running (that sucker runs HOT!).  Going to have to get a USB powered fan to ventilate the cabinet a bit more.

All I can say is that HD is stunning.  I do believe I'll be spending most of my time surfing those 27 channels.

Wish I had the view angle up here in AK to get HDTV on Dishnetwork.  Guess that's one of the minus's of living on top of the world.  Other then that, I've been completely happy with DN.  Beats the fuck out of feeding the local cable pig.

I've been (or had been) with our local company (Adelphia changing into Comcast) for about 7.5 years.  In that time, they have added 2 channels, raised the price of basic by 20%, and drug their feet on doing any upgrades to the system.

I was getting tired of paying $40 a month for 65 channels of nothing.  Now I'll be paying about twice that for damn near 300 channels.

My wife had been whining for the last couple of months about never being able to find anything to watch.  Once the install was done today and she was browsing the guide, she was complaining about not being able to find anything to watch.  Women...

I have a 622 and a 625.  The 622 is the one that FUBAR'ed today.

I have both in decently ventilated areas, but not really good enough.  Like I said, I'm going to get either a USB fan to install in the back of the cabinet or a laptop cooling mat to put under the thing.

Had a 522 DVR for almost 2 years with no problems.

I haven't had a chance to try yet.  Just a matter of getting an antenna.  From what I found on Antennaweb, it would take a pretty tall antenna, so I'll probably just wait for Dish to add our local HD's to the lineup.

How is/was your positioned?

Both of mine are inside TV stands.  The 622 is closed in the back with very little ventilation (gotta drill some holes tomorrow).  The 625 is open front and back, but it has a DVD player on top of it.  Going to get some rubber chunks to put between them to allow a bit more room for cooling.

I keep it in the open on top the equipment rack. I have been editing video to hard drives for 8+ years I learned early heat is the enemy.
