It is interesting because I also talked about World Trade Center. I think because Oliver Stone really did research prior to making this movie it helped accurately reflect what happened on the day we will never forget. As I am responding to your post, another movie popped in my mind. Some may not like this person but I think his attempts to expose the wrong doing by the government is accurate. I am speaking of Micheal Moore and his movie Fahrenheit 9/11. Moore made a documentary in an attempt to bring to light the corruption of the government and what role they played in the 9/11 attacks. He spent the movie walking around talking to people including congressmen and military recruiters. Some may not agree with his views, but I think the movie was accurate.
One of the questions in my class was "Provide an example of Hollywood portraying an accurate response to a disaster and an inaccurate response". Some good examples were provided and then this person brings up Michael Moore. What does the hive think about this person's post? Incidentally, I used Jericho as an example of an accurate response by people. |

What happened is that he takes the position that he believes the film maker's research and documentation is essentially good enough for him, and so no more work is required to chase down original sources. Plus he's a sheeple. |

And also, what exactly does "accurate response" mean? Mark Wahlberg was pretty accurate with his response in the movie "Shooter", but not so accurate when he recently believed that he was a special forces superhero in the news... Accurate response to a disaster? WTF? Did the instructor mean to use Appropriate/Inappropriate? it would make a bit more sense, but still you would have to know who exactly it is that set the standard. |

i would always drop arfcom hints in DB posts. What's funny is that for the last three semesters I have named quite a few random files I have had to forward to instructors with some variation of "Fo Time", and not one of them has ever asked me about it. Last week I had to send out a draft I named chronologicalFOTIME. |

I should have given a better summary of the question. Basically the media tends to report that the public panics during disasters, there is widespread looting, and lots of price gouging...basically an ARFCOM wet dream but in reality, there is very little looting, isolated incidents of gouging and most people behave rationally. The question wanted an example of Hollywood portraying people acting rational as opposed to the standard "everyone freak the frack out". |
