Looking for a new digital camera. My current one is old. I've had it since 2000, it's an Olympus Camedia D-340R 1.3 megapixel. I'm just a casual picture taker, nothing professional or for business. What do you all recommend? I've been out of the loop for a while. I'd like something compact, with an optical zoom, and decent picture quality.

Canon Powershot S410. I picked it up online for about $210.

Its a great camera with 4.0megapixels and 3.0X opitcal zoom. Its automatic feature is great for the casual picture taker, but it has plenty of customizable features if you just want to mess around.

it is also VERY easy to use. There are not many buttons to learn, and the on-screen menu/picture navigation is a breeze.

Its a little bigger than the palm of your hand, and is about 1 inch thick. It's compact enough for you to not notice it if its on your belt or in a bag.

Overall, I highly recommend it.

Compare Digital Cameras

DPreviews is one of the best to get information and compare features and price without actually going to the camera store.  They usually list prices at a half dozen reputable internet sites (or phone orders) that will give you a ballpark figure if you choose to buy locally.
