My son just got destiny for the ps3 but, for whatever reason, it is displayed with the black bars on each side. Where are the game video settings?  Everything else is full screen 1080p except Destiny. WTF?

Setup:

Sony Bravia 40" 1080p connected to PS3 via HDMI. I've set PS3 video to 1080p only

I'm not a gamer so go easy on me.

When you first start the game it asks you to manually adjust the image to the screen's borders.

There should be some sort of option for adjusting them again.

Tried that.  I can adjust to the top and bottom of the screen but not to the left or right.   It's like I'm stuck in 4:3 vs 16:9.

Both are adjusted at the same time. It's not like other games that have you do top to bottom, then left to right on a separate screen. Hope that helps.

Here's the problem.  On the "Set Screen Bounds,"  I can set the vertical properly, but the horizontal won't go any farther than what is shown in the photo.  If I go further horizontal, the brackets go off-screen.

That's a TV setting. Go into display setting's and set the aspect ratio to 16:9
Sometimes there's also a "picture" button on the remote that'll let you cycle through the options.

It's likely set on 4:3 right now

Checked that too. Set to Full Pixel on TV.  When I start Destiny, it switches to Normal with no option of Full Pixel. Tried a few other games with no issue. Maybe there is an initial setting when first starting the game?

if memory serves the vertical was one stick and the horizontal was the other stick when I set mine up.  Took a second to make it start moving.  Maybe take another shot at it and give it a second on the other stick moving it sideways before you give up.

When you look at the aspect ratio, it says 16:9?

Post a picture of your remote please.

Judging by the picture, 5% chance that it's not the screen boundary adjustments.
95% chance that it's a TV setting or an odd ps3 setting messing with the output.

PS3 has a video modes setting where you can limit what resolutions to allow. Maybe it got set?

1.  Press the "info" button on your TV remote.  Take a pic and post here.
2.  Ensure your TV is configured to display HD signal in the proper aspect ratio.  Not stretched.  letterboxed.  Zoomed.  Etc.
3.  Ensure your ps3 is set to output the correct signal.

Figured it out. Destiny's resolution is sub 720p. I had the PS3 set to only do 1080p or 420p. Since it couldn't do 1080, I got 420. Changed PS3 video settings to do all resolutions, problem solved.
