I have come to a few conclusions recently after observing people (mostly relatives) who have never been 100 miles from a suburb and how they react to guns, hunting, and preparedness. I have to remind myself that they have never been exposed to so much of what makes America what it is to me. To this type of person, guns are what criminals use to murder people, hunting is what stupid fat rednecks do for fun, and preparedness is non-existent. To be in a place of absolute dependence on government is normal. They do not understand what they have not been exposed to, they do not see what they have and are still missing. If they had grown up on a farm they wouldn't think hunting is mean and gross, they wouldn't see guns and self-reliance as something that's on TV. They don't know or care what happened during Katrina, because it's far away and boring. They don't know anything about politics, because that wouldn't be cool. They believe that if you were to call someone a sheep, you're just aragant, and there is nothing to it. As long as a sheep is a sheep, they will never know that they are a sheep. That is one of their most basic attributes, ignorance by choice. They do not understand why someone would spend more money on tools and boots than on an XBOX. Some of these people have never been in the position where what they use and buy is important to their survival, so they believe that 'artsy' and what 'feels' good to them is more important than function and utility. If I convey a desire to go hunting, I am made to feel guilty. They will not shoot certain guns.... they would rather sit in the car.... after I go through all the trouble to set them up. They call me a commando when I bring up ANYTHING firearm or survival related. Military service is out of the question, because Rage Against the Machine said so. They see a Kabar knife and see a assault knife that is used to murder people, they wont understand why someone would own one (or any other decent knife). They say that tactical training is 'gay'. If I say that if caught in a mall shooting or something I would be regretting not having armor under my shirt, 'armor is something that only cops should have.' They don't know what year the US invaded Iraq, they don't know what we're doing in Afghanistan, they just have no clue. They see Heath Ledger's death as a great tragedy worth discussing, but the soldiers fighting and dying over-seas are meaningless and 'gay'. If I state something is 'liberal' or 'too left', they contradict me, even if they have absolutely no clue what I'm talking about. They believe that if someone is suspicious of something, they're just paranoid. If you say, I don't really believe everything I hear, you're a conspericy nut. Dangerous naivite' is their specialty. They are also masters at psychological projection; If they don't know anything about a certain subject, they expect everyone else to be as ignorant. It's a scary thought, that people are willingly ignorant, and that these people vote. They do not understand anything about real life, without all this TV BS, but they vote. They know absolutely nothing about Obama or Clinton or their past, but they don't care. They saw them on TV and liked what they said. One of the most humorous things I have heard from a voting relative is that Obama is a muslim and that Ron Paul is his American name. (was I wrong to correct them? )These people think that 'reality TV' is all real, and if someone says it's not real, they're a conspericy nut. (how does that make sense?) It seems that they are stuck with a 'high school' mentality; as in, everything that was 'cool' in high school, they still live by... tucking in your shit isn't cool, backpacks that aren't as loose as possible aren't cool, pants that aren't sagging isn't cool. Anywho, I have come to the conclusion that people born in cities/suburbs are taught to react a certain way to certain activities/objects. Self defense is strange, guns are weird, hunting is gross, people are meant to be sheep, we're not supposed to know the local laws, politics don't effect me... I could go on.... Today, weak is strength, ignorance is power, unprepared is preferred, and an 'i don't care' attitude is success. If you're wondering, I have lived in suburbs, but I have also lived with a professional hunter that taught me a lot. I don't pretend to be some super enlightened commando... but I realize that preparedness and knowledge is important. I know that I'm not anything special, which is why it can be so frustrating when people that are probably smarter than I am are completely lost on these particular subjects. I just had to get that off my chest. It has been rolling around in my brain for a while. What do you think? Damon |

Better yet. SHTF finally. They come to your house, naturally. "Knock, knock" "Who is it?" "It's your cousin, Bobby! Let me in man, it's bad out here!" "Who?" "Bobby, dammit! Your cousin!" "I don't have a cousin named Bobby Dammit" "NO! FUCK! It's Bobby!" "What did you bring with you?" "OPEN THE FUCKING DOOR!" "No, Bobby. What did you bring with you?" "What do you mean? "You know. Food, water, ammunition. Stuff to survive." "What the fuck?" "No, really. What did you bring with you?" "I didn't bring shit. I've got a fuckin' cell phone." "Who is this again?" "IT'S BOBBY!" "But you didn't bring anything?" "I BROUGHT A FUCKIN' CELL PHONE!" "Can't let you in." "WHAT!?! STOP DICKIN AROUND AND LET ME IN!!!" "You didn't bring anything to sustain yourself, you've made fun of me, and now you want to bleed me dry. Call someone on your cell phone and order a pizza already, I've got to go. Supper's almost ready. We"re having roast deer and potatoes. I killed the deer and grew the potatoes. Bye' now." |
You really need not have anything to do with them, either. Move to NC or WV and don't look back. |
ETA with sniplets:
Aesop (who wrote Aesop's Fables) put it succinctly (i.e., the "Cliff's Notes:") at the end of his story about the Ant and the Grasshopper. The grasshopper is freezing and starving, while the ant is snug in his burrow, eating the food he's stored for the winter: Grasshopper: "Ant, let me in! I'm freezing and starving!" Ant: "You may dance in the winter to the tune you sang in the summer!" |
I almost didn't post because I knew I would get shit. I have never credited myself at being a good writer or even good with words in general. |

I am going to regret saying this but Obama's name in this time and place is every bit as American a name as Ron Paul's name. You do yourself no favors stating that to people. I understand your point and basically get it but we have to get past the alienating ourselves by saying things that make us look like rednecks and other derogatory comments that you rail against. As far as the dependence on government I totally get your comments and agree. It really is kind of sad. And it is even sadder when you consider how much more those folks who give little to this country get in return when compared to those who give so much. And not necessarily money. Military members, police, firemen, and those of us that do in fact pay a lot of taxes get less and less benefit from these things and others seem to be getting more and more. And heaven forbid you point that out you'll be listed as a evil self absorbed asshole. We'll make it though this is a strong country. |
It was my relative that stated that Ron Paul is Obama's American name. I corrected them and told them that Obama is extremely left and Ron Paul is libertarian/conservative. ETA: I was sure to tell her that Obama is not a muslim. I agree that this is a very strong country that has been through a lot. There is a silent majority that doesn't speak up much. BUT, our nation is also being subverted and the people in power right now might not stay in power forever. |

Ther are places where people don't think that way....but they seem to be shrinking as the .gov re-education camps turn out indoctrinated students. Kids these days hardly stand a chance, unless their parents actually 'parent'. The bullshit is pandemic. Get out while you can!! Check out Nikita Krushevs' "Secret Speech" in which he referenced the 'Cult of Personality'. Nikita Krushev Now tell me this country isn't in some serious shit. |

I disagree with cutting off people like this. Who else is going to educate them, even if they don't always listen at first. My neighbor and I were having a conversation, she stated that she was voting for Hillary because she couldn't stand 4 more years of Bush!! Rather than bashng her, and pointing out that if she did not know that Bush was on his last term she probably had no friggin' idea what he did or stood for, I discussed the things I knew were important to her. After the conversation, she began to realize that Hillary and those like her did not support her easy of living (stay at home mom, schools her kids). I've thought of leaving Northern Virginia, and probably will one day, but until then I do my best to educate people like you wrote about. Yeh, I read the whole thing, had to past it in Word to get a decent size font. All I can say is there are a lot of folks who are afraid of reality, and cling to their delusions with a death grip. It's all they've got that keeps them feeling safe. |
and where is that gonna leave all of us? I'd like to see these idiots squirm in the fire as much as anyone, but until you ArfLand declares its independence I think we're in the same boat with the leftists. also: page two is MINE motherfuckers! |

And their food comes in nicely wrapped packages from "the store". They wouldn't know how to kill or butcher an animal if their lives depended on it.
FAIL on all counts. |
