Have any of you guys heard of this? Sounds like this thing is capable of some serious shit. Apparently it uses small fragments of a carcinogen in place of schrapnel to inflict wounds. It also creates some helacious burns too. I saw a picture of what the thing is capable of, and let me tell you, its some shocking shit.

it's inert, but explosive?

there's an oxymoron for ya.

i get it, particlized metal...sounds brutal

BTW: it's not a carcinogen in place of shrapnel.  it's microshrapnel, made of heavy metal tungsten alloy, which happens to be carcinogenic.

so basically, it blows up, and instead of sending out chunks of metal which you might be able to pick out with pliers from your wounds if you survive, it blasts tiny particles of tungsten alloy, which ignite and burn your flesh, leaving behind nasty wounds with countless microscopic pieces of powdered metal embedded in your skin, which then develop cancer and kill you dead.

brutal indeed.

I don't think such a weapon would be allowed by the Geneva Convention and/or current chemical weapons conventions.

Are talking about Zirconium?  Not sure if Zirconium is a carciniogen but it is pyrophoric and used to coat frag liners on cluster munitions.

Now Beryllium is a carcinogen and does horrible shit to people.  I am not aware of its use in any normal weapon, it is a element that is best left alone.

Beryllium is BAD shit.

There were a few F1 teams that were making parts out of it and some of the mechanics/support people flat refused to handle or make them in any way and got it in their contracts.

One of the advantages of DIME weapons is that they have a very limited effects area.  The individual particles have very little momentum of their own so they do not travel very far.  The limits the collateral damages because the effects range is so small.  But everything in that range is pretty well screwed.
