Got this from an Adventure forum. Thought it was a legitimant cause but it is not. My bad. |

the National Forestry Service (NFS) has proposed the closure of part of National Forest System Road 297 on Starr Mountain through the winter months, citing several reasons.
The NFS proposal cites the dumping of trash, selling and use of drugs and damage to the road that occurs from the use of non-residents during bad weather as reasons for the potential closure. The road would be closed for a nearly two-mile stretch from mile marker 0.75 to mile marker 2.35 each year from Dec. 1 to March 1. "The seasonal closure is proposed to reduce the damage that often occurs from vehicle use on the road during the winter months," the proposal reads. "Year-round vehicle use would still be available on the section of NFSR 297 from milepost 2.35 to the end (6.5 miles) from the east side of Starr Mountain via Bullet Creek Road (NFSR 44) and White Cliff Road (NFSR 220)." |

Sounds like a good closure to me. Less of my tax dollars going to fix the road after assholes mess it up every winter. |

Deceiving petition is deceiving. I'm betting everyone that signs that thing has spent time on the road performing maintenance, otherwise they are all just hypocrites. Calling the property owners greedy, what are you a SJW? |
|
Quoting post link for clarity: " Long story short.. vandals and outright criminals and the lack of satisfactory maintenance of the road lead to closing of it. .It may have to be closed seasonally in order to limit access. Say close it after November by gating it off to limit the destruction of the road by the dummies who want to go four wheeling up there. It turns that mountain road to soup. Ranger Wright explained that the easements drawn up for the two remaining access points are worded differently. They are to provide PUBLIC access across private land to forest service property on public land at the top of Starr Mtn. The access from the Etowah side was worded that it was an easement to provide forest service access across private land to top of the mountain. The roads are private roads across private property." |

Good closure. The offroading and hunting communities are their own worst enemy sometimes. |

Isn't it reasonable to protect it for responsible users, who are also helping to fund it? IMO, the NFS has an obligation to do exactly that. |

The land is accessible, the roads that cross private property is what is in discussion here.. |

Am I reading this correctly? It seems that the road that has been closed was an easement over private property to allow the USFS access, and the proposed seasonal closure is over a similar road?
Then a bunch of assholes fucked it up for everyone else? This is why we can't have nice things... Misleading petition is misleading. |

The roads are private roads across private property.
Not publicly owned Simple solution. Buy the land. Or fuck, maybe keep the promises made to the owners who are tired of having their property trashed and stolen. Greedy land owners you say? Pfft. Fuck your FSA garbage. |

I can see the property owners' point of view. There is a state forest on a mountain locally that had a lot of garbage left and teenagers partying at night. The state put a gate up. Locals, including myself, agreed to open and close the gate during the spring, summer and fall from 9am to 6pm. It's closed during the winter due to snow. Posted Via AR15.Com Mobile |
