Anybody watching this show? Monday was the third episode. I really like sci-fi movies and TV shows and I am loving this one. The premier (2 hours long) was excellent. The next 2 episodes have been a bit more slow, but still enjoyable. |

Caught my eye, but not yet.... are there any "aliens" or are they all "humanoid" aliens? Didn't see a lot of effort in the costumes... They haven't introduced all the races of aliens, but so far they've all been humanoid. There's been one story with Castithans (albino aliens with a religious form of law) and one centered around the Irathiant, a bronzed skin tribal warrior race. One of the the races is supposed to be energy-based, which makes me curious as to how it will be portrayed. |

The pilot had the Volge, which were bipedal, but looked to be 7-9 feet tall and didn't have humanoid facial features. (Also despite being obviously more technologically advanced than humans, their armor didn't seem to do much of anything against human small arms fire). RE: the costumes and prosthetics - they're biting off more than they can chew with their budget. The planet has been partially xenoformed, which means that just about every scene that takes place outside of Defiance has a lot of CGI. Unfortunately this means that all of the effects look terrible. Like SciFi (sorry, SyFy) Original Movie bad. So better not be expecting Farscape level of costuming. Hopefully the folks running it will dial back the effects and concentrate on quality over quantity, a la Battlestar or Stargate(s). Overall I liked the first couple of eps. I've got reasonably high expectations that this show can become great in time. But due to the way tv is now, especially with current viewer expectations of new shows being outstanding right out of the box, I don't have high hopes for it to have the time to become great. My WAG is that it gets a season and then cancelled. I'm hoping that the video game lasts/is popular enough to feed the show's audience and keep it on the air for a season 2. |

They've also shown both the Volge (mechanical/robot ish aliens), Sensoth (large burly apeish guys... Think baldfaced Big foots), and Liberata, small mousy sort of guys, one was a truck driver, the other serves as a butler/house help for the Mine Owner. Also there's the Doc, who's an Indogene... sort of smooth skinned white snake people. Besides, Science shows that theoretically bipedal life such as ours is an evolutionary beneficial trait. |

I really started to enjoy it. I'm excited that it was renewed for a second season. The last few episodes have been on a tear. The show has gotten pretty darn good, good enough to recommend to people. I'm hoping that A: the quality of the last few episodes is the show finding its footing, and not merely an aberration. B: enough people will start watching that we don't have a repeat of Stargate Universe, where the show started out rocky and lost its audience, without getting them back when it got a lot better in the latter half of season 1 and the whole of season 2. Six seasons and a movie! |
