Yesterday my wife and I went out and spent just over a days wages on stuff to donate to the Red Cross for hurricane relief.  My business, a vending company, is also sending cases of bottles water and all close dated product.  And then I get home last night and get slapped in the face by people on TV playing the race card blaming the lack of relief on "whitey".   AM I MISSING SOMETHING HERE?

Celine Dion, possibly the whitest woman in this country and not even a US citizen, dropped $1,000,000.00 on hurricane relief but the NFL players are only donating $5,000.00 each.  Something is wrong with this picture.   If this is a race issue, where are the actors, musicians and sports figures of similar race, who have $$$?   I don't see any of them on TV making donations etc.  Makes me go

I hope I didn't break any COC rules, but I needed to vent.

But will everyone see it?  Hell no.

I just can't believe how this whole hurricane disaster has turned into an even bigger story due to race, rather then the destruction and death it's causing.  Can't we all just get along?

Invariably, issues involving blacks come around to race.  Not all of the black community, but a substantial percentage still feels their current plight (be it hurricane, or poverty, or urban blight..) is largely the fault of others.

Listen to the leaders of the black community.  They point fingers elsewhere, but not at their own people or, more appropriatly, their culture.

Thank you Rodney King!  Very true.  But everyone getting along is not newsworthy.

I am still confused about this. Were only black people affected by this disaster? According to the census they are not the only race living in New Orleans.

One black leader that didn't point fingers elsewhere, Bill Cosby.  Unfortunately, the other black leaders have turned on him as he isn't following the script.  That makes others of a similiar mind not want to speak out.

Funny, I had written another paragraph about Mr Cosby, but chose to delete it prior to posting as I thought it might be too inflamatory.  You are exactly right, however.  Mr Cosby will speak with logic and brevity pointing out the black communities faults (we all have some..) and for that he is ostricized.

But, it's really obvious.... easy is on the right track.

For the past 25+ years they've been dipping into my wallet for their welfare checks and free medical care while they ignorantly wallowed utterly unprepared in a corrupted city of their own making knowing full well that they already live underwater AND in a hurricane belt - and now they're sure get an even bigger grab from my wallet whether I like it or not.

So no, I won't donate to this one.

I heard a (black) member of CONGRESS claim on CNN that the "speed" with which aid reached NO was because of racism.

And Wolf Blitzer, that drooling kool-aid drinking idiot, didn't think to remind the member of congress that a lot more places than just N.O. were hit hard by this storm, and they weren't faring any better in the relief speed department despite being mostly white communities. Thus how could racism be a factor?

He also could have pointed out that in these other communities that were just as devestated, there wasn't anyone shooting at rescue workers or doing anywhere near the level of looting.

Was that the result of "racism" too?

What I have yet to hear about is accual victims volunteering in any capacity. They show countless able bodied folks just standing around doing nothing yet people from all over the states with no special skill sets are heading down to NO to help out. I'm not saying its not happening but I've not heard a single report.

Jump ahead to sept. 1 2006.  I can hear it now... "Is my brand new home built yet" said by a twenty five year old, displaced and jobless katrina victim.

Maybe the $5,000 figure is the "official" NFL figure, but I have heard stories about some players doing a lot more than that.  Brett Farve and Steve McNair both paid to have loaded up tractor trailers sent to their hometowns in Mississippi.   I heard that so far, Farve has sent one and McNair has sent five. I am sure that there are others that are doing a lot, too.

Do they make up the majority of gangster rap sales?  Maybe, maybe not.  Regardless, it is a safe statement to say that people like the New Orleans inner city dwellers helped make the thug rappers rich, even if they were not solely responsible for it.

There's a deeper sociological dynamic that is the overall point, i.e. that the vermin  that produce this "music" don't give a flying fuck about the people who worship them, buy their poison, and live and die trying to emulate them.
