I have a couple of cans of Malaysian mixed belt that I would like to delink. What is the best method that will not hurt the ammo or the links?
It needs to be a "Home" recipe using common tool or such.

I would recomend buying or borrowing a friends M60 for that would be the quickest and easiest way to de-link!!

Oh yea, are you doing anything with the links when you are done?  I am curious how difficult it would be to LINK some ammo by hand as I have some old 308 brass that has reached the end of it's service life that I would like to link for display.  Is this more work than it is worth... ie should I just buy some linked ammo and display it instead?  Note:  I was going to reload some dummy rounds with only bullets in the cases.

About a year and a half ago (when you could still buy linked ammo in Kali)Turners was selling Malaysian .308 in four round links for 36 bucks for a 180 rnd. can.

I bought four cans and spent a few hours delinking.  This is how I did it.

You need a sturdy table and a piece of 4x4.  As long as you don't have girly hands [:D] you can do it without gloves.

Hold the section of links over the 4x4 with the bullet end facing down and apply pressure to the tip of the bullet against the block of wood allowing the case to slide back almost past the end of the link.  After you've done this to the four rounds, just twist them off the rest of the way with your fingers.

Heh, heh.  I said girly hands.

Ya'll are all sissies.  Using a wood block.  I just sit and watch TV and PUSH each cartridge forward out of the link with my thumb.  What's the big deal?  Ya'll ain't got no calluses?

This is the route I have taken. Budwieser and the history chanel will make short work of this.

I tried this technique, but the resulting pressure from the links' edges was just tearing up my fingers too much to do for 720 rounds worth.

Also, since my wifes genitals aren't made of leather, I'm sure she appreciates the fact that I preserve my fingers' non abrasive quality.  [:D]
