Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers were around in 1979? Just looking at some vids and it appears that way? Way cool but vintage band.

Neither do The Beach Boys, even though its probably the 6th different crew.

Is Sha-Na-Na still going?

It's all the crystal meth.  They're embalmed.

Nope - his first band was called the Sundowners, which later changed to the Epics. The Epics later evolved into Mudcrutch in 1970. Mudcrutch disbanded and Petty reunited with two of the members to form the band Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers.

Yep, and they were around before that in Gainesville, Fl. He had a band named Mudchruch.

Now if you want a good story.

When I was in HS, I went to see The WHO when they had their "Tommy," tour.

The opening band for them at Merriweather Post Pavilion was a new un-known band.

They were called:
Led Zeppelin.

Me too, and I wondered how long they could last with a screeching, Bob Dylanesque lead singer.
