I've had a DVD RW drive for a while and just got around to buying some blank DVD's the other day to play with it.

I have downloaded and installed DVD Shrink and DVD Decrypter.  Is there a beginner tutorial for us "non geek" types that will explain from A to Z the process of copying one DVD to another?

I'd like to skip the part of the learning curve that results in a lot of hosed disks.

Thanks.

Legally, I think you can copy a DVD but not break/remove encryption....

Someone correct me if I am wrong

If all you want to do is make backup copies of your discs, you should be good to go with DVD shrink and a standard burner.  DVD shrink will remove the copyright protection, IIRC, and then you can use your own software (like Nero) to burn to a DVD.

DVDshrink won't remove current copy protection, you need something along the lines of anydvd and CloneDVD for easy copy (i.e. idiot proof).

I have Nero 8, but I kept running into sites that list DVD Shrink and Decrypter.  I won't have a chance to play with this until the middle of the week so I haven't really explored any of those programs.

I use DVDFab Platinum (~$40).  Has a clone feature––put your source disk in one drive, the blank double-layer DVD in the other drive, push the button, and out pops a perfect bit-for-bit clone of the movie in an hour or so.

DL DVDs are more expensive, but (IMHO) not enough to use regular DVDs and compromise the original quality of the movie.

CloneDVD can copy DVD, if protected you can use AnyDVD before running CloneDVD.
It can be copied directly or store on HD in few diffrent format files

Thanks for the suggestions folks.  I'll look into a couple of the programs suggested and see if I can do this without a trash can full of wasted blanks.
