Is anyone else with DISH network having problems this afternoon with loss of signal?
I can't get about half the channels, says partial or complete loss of signal. No real weather problems to cause it. Its as if they have two satellites up there and one of them is dead. |
|
Mine is working fine. Try a front panel reset on the receiver by holding the power button in until the unit shuts off. It should restart on its own and then try to acquire signal. After it comes back up check and see if the problem is fixed. If that doesn't do it press menu then 6 then 1 then 1 on the remote. That will bring you into the point dish screen and show you your signal levels. It will give you the option to run a check switch. Run the check switch and tell me how it comes back. I used to install these and do trouble calls before I joined the Army so I can walk you through any problem you might be having.

It's weird, like the company was wiped off the map. Their phones aren't working, their website won't load, and we have no signal. Same here. Mine finally went from "Complete signal loss" to "Partial signal loss" and now I can pull in a few local channels. Couldn't get through by phone or web site. Rebooted receiver a few times, no joy. |

From a Dish Network forum:
We have a tech on a roof with a Spectrum Analyzer.
He says there is nothing at orbital slot 129. Just noise floor. The lights are out. Out in Denver as well, DISH Customer Service number is just busy.
It looks like the satellite at 129 may be toast - I can still get some channels like 299 and 300 from 110 and 119. This is per dish's facebook page...
We are currently experiencing technical issues with the satellite location 129. This has caused signal loss on some channels. We apologize for any inconvenience that this has caused our customers and we are working to resolve this issue. Please direct any further questions to our DISH Answers facebook page or send a private message to DISH Answers. |

Here in NY we get our HD off of the 61.5 sat and the rest of the channels of 110 and 119. Nothing you can do but wait in that case. |

Quoted: Heres the deal, only HD channels are out. The website isn't down it's just slow because everyone in the US is trying to access it thinking "why is my dish out?" The phones are busy because everyone that can't get the website is calling thinking "wonder why my dish is out?" It's a satellite issue and for the previous poster that said to run the test... this is what I got http://i864.photobucket.com/albums/ab202/Netofficer3710/2011-09-13173833.jpg Mine is totally out. |

If you do it will save you as missing the 129 and you wont be able to tell when it comes back without running another test when the sat is back online. I should have mentioned that before. Just cancel out of the menus and wait it out. Nothing you can really do but wait it out. If you did save already its not a huge deal but once the 129 comes back up you have to run another check switch or it will be missing all channels from 129. Sucks that I can't be of more help but with the sat down there's nothing I can do to help you. Only your HD is out because only your HD comes from 129 sat. All your other channels come off of 119 and 110 sats. |
| 129 is out. I am a technician for Dish. If you go to the Check Switch and run the test and save the settings you can still watch TV without any problems. Just remember to run it again tomorrow or whenever Dish gets it back online. This is a nationwide problem as long as you are on Western Arch satellites. If you are pulling from Eastern Arch, you shouldn't have any problems. |

Satellite 129 is out. It's western arc HD channels.
If you're on Eastern arc, you're fine. If you want to view SD programming (including locals) that are not broadcast from 129, you can do so by changing your Channel Preference to HD & SD: 211, 411, 211k, 222, 222k, 622, 722, 722k receivers: 1.Press Menu 2.Select Preferences 3.Select Guide Display 4.Set Channel Preference to HD & SD 5.Select Save 6.Verify that the SD version of their locals is now visible in the guide 922 receiver: 1.Press Menu 2.Select Settings 3.Select Guide Display 4.Set Channel Preference to HD & SD 5.Select Save 6.Verify that the SD version of their locals is now visible in the guide ETA: here's the best place for Dish info. http://www.satelliteguys.us/forumdisplay.php/10-The-Dish-Network-Forum |

All three of my Dish receivers were doing that Sunday night. All working fine for the moment. Sounds like you are on Eastern Arc, using a 1000.4 dish set up, sats 61.5 72 and 77 i believe. They are all ok. Western Arc uses a 1000.2 dish and Sats 110, 119, and 129. Sat 129 is tits up right now. |

If it's a spacecraft issue I wouldn't expect a timely resolution from Dish. When I worked there as an engineer they had no contingency planning, their staff was a joke, and we had to limp by with out of date test equipment or no test equipment at all. Hell, our most reliable SpecAn was a USB dongle-based unit that we had to run off of a shitty laptop.
If you're bored, I bet you could get Charlie Ergen to let you fuck his mother for a nickel. |

Just run a new check switch test every day or go online and see when 129 comes back up. Or just see my above post to get all the Standard Definition channels you might be missing on the guide... |

I own my own Dish receiver so no "rent"[something Dish is working hard to try screw me on] and so far, mine has been fine. It's also an older one, maybe that makes a difference.
Dish claims they won't support it [it's digital so that's BS] in another year so I'll have to rent one. The day they charge me "rent" is the day they get dropped. |

Wait, and a Space Shuttle. I'm in. We'll just give Richard Branson a call and borrow one of his space contraptions. To thread hijack a little... Do you work directly for Dish or are you a subcontractor? I used to install and worked directly for Dish and I used to hate going to trouble calls and seeing some of the hack jobs some people would do on installs. I went to one trouble call that a subcontractor did the install on and got his 3 chances to fix on trouble calls before they sent me out to check it out. Holy hell it was a mess. I shit you not, he put the RG59 whips that come in the receiver box from the DP+ LNB to a ground block on the roof. Then he ran dual RG6 inside the gutter for about 10 feet to another ground block. From there he ran more dual down the side of the house and into the basement to another ground block. That makes 3 ground blocks and as if the one on the roof and the one in the gutter weren't bad enough, the one inside where it actually should have been was about 2 feet from a good ground and he still was too lazy to ground it. I get behind the TV after fixing his outdoor hack job and find that instead of doing the simplest wall fish in history (literally it took me 2 minutes to fish it) he drilled through the customers BEAUTIFUL hard wood floor. The customer had no idea the guy did that until he saw me fish it the right way. His wife was home for the initial install and previous trouble calls. He was LIVID that the guy drilled the hole in his floor. I do not miss that job. I didn't mind doing installs where I could do everything the right way from the start but I absolutely HATED fixing other techs hack jobs. Some people take no pride in their work. |

Nope, they will NOT sell the new one's, they will only "rent" them to you, I just got a letter stating same. Been with Dish since they were Skytel or something like that. [In the day of 10 foot dishes and you tracked the satellites yourself] ALWAYS owned my own receiver. |

This sucks big time. I tried switching to SD, and kept getting errors everytime I changed the channel. Finally I gave up and did Check switch. Now at least I can watch something, but will have to switch back when/if they get it fixed.
I spent big money for an HDTV and hardly ever watch SD anymore. SD looks terrible on my HD screen. Dish has worked well since I've had it, but this lack of a backup signal makes me wonder. |
